I misread that for classic cars older than 25 years you could apply for tax exemption - this is incorrect - it's just 40 years old so it would seem

This will happen. Look at how much of a hit they're gonna take on fuel duty as well as Vehicle Excise Duty. For those needing to drive a leccy car, make hay whilst the sun shines, cause free VED ain't gonna last long!

I did a quick calculation, just for fun.
Based on 5,000 miles a year, with unleaded being £1.30 per litre and an M doing an average of 25mpg; it now costs you 35.6p per mile just in fuel and road tax. That's high

Not going to happen, how are people who spend a coupe of K on a used car going to afford an electric vehicle and by the time its at a price point they can afford or want to pay the range will be about 3 miles
