Starting to lose faith in Apple

Yup...my iPads, iPhones, iMac and MBP 17 have been faultless....and my MBP is 5 years old......ok ok, one exploding battery.....but otherwise...

I could arguably be called a fanboy so I shall avoid commenting on apple's products here, however HP was mentioned and I've had nothing but pain with their laptops.

First was a tx1 which basically overheated itself and caused the graphics chip to desolder itself from the board (a common problem with HP's of the time)

Thankfully with an extended warranty, it was replaced, this time for a dv3. Conveniently just after a year, the battery goes. Won't charge up and a pretty expensive for a new one.

Bottom line, I think people are happy to pay the apple premium to deal with their after sales care which on the whole seems to be painless.

I have an old iMac from 2004 that has the screen on a stick. It did need a new HD due to a noisey bearing (data transfer & new HD under warranty). It still works fine, Biggest issue with that old Mac ppc is the old software doesn't work with a lot of new sites or my photo software. I bought a new intel iMac in 2011 that hasn't missed a beat. I'm typing this reply on an iPad 1 that I bought in 8/2010. I still have a PowerBook G3 laptop from 1999 running OS9 & it's original battery that I use for astronomy. It has never missed a beat. The only apple product that has gone mouldy on me and needed replacing was one of the first iPods that had a HD failure. I have no experience with iPhones, as I hate cell phones & think they should be outlawed.

I have a 4 year old iMac, 3 year old MacBook Pro and a 3 year old Airport Extreme and never even one problem with any of them... :)

Be have my doubts about the new iPhone software but that's another story!
In terms of my Mac book Air, it's still going strong after 3 years without fault and I'm sure the OS is as quick as it was when I bought it.
Coming from an IT occupation it's nice to have an OS which "just works" without all the maintenance and up keep of a windows OS. The last thing I want to do after work is be faffing around with more PC related issues.

The lenovos are pretty indestructible though! I've used them for over 10 years and can not fault them

I've had a couple of Ipods and an Ipad, wife has an Ipad as well. All have seen a lot of use, no probs at all.

My iPhone 4 has been great for 3 years but is now getting rather slow so I think it will be due for replacement soon.

Slow? Understatement of the year - my 4 on iOS7 is unbearably slow most of the time. The iPhone 6 better be a decent improvement over the 5S, otherwise it's Android time.

I've been using Apple computers at work for around 15 years and I've only ever had one fail on me while it was still under warranty so was fixed by Apple. That was about 4 years ago and the computer is still being used by one of our juniors. Apart from that 1 fault In the last 8 years I can't remember a single day of down time that any of our 24 staff have had due to computer issues.

Over the last year or so I have noticed that my computer does crash and freeze more than it used to. However, I think this has more to do with Adobe CS6 than the Apple OS. Photoshop is especially ropey these days.

I'm not a big fan of all things Apple. I never got on with the iPhone and I hate my iPad compared to my Nexus tablet. They do run better but the iOS is like wearing handcuffs.
