Starting problems

Hi everyone. Sorry if this has been done to death. I'm not too practical.
I'm having issues starting the car. E85 3.0. Sometimes it's ok, sometimes it sounds very slow to start.
I've had the battery checked at Halfords. They recon its fine. Next step starter motor? Or is it worth changing the battery anyway?
Thanks. Dave

A quick look on europarts

Bosch battery around £100

Starter motor around £150

Can you jump start it off another car (with a good battery) this would help rule out the starter motor if it starts better.

I have also been having starting issues but the battery was showing full, I was able to jump start the car but was having electrical issues and lights on the dash...... Bit the bullet today and bought a battery same spec as the original BMW one after 15 years from Eurocarparts with a 37% discount only cost £ 57.00 and now it starts first time and no lights on dash......., very happy now :D was thinking about all sorts of issues like you and the costs it may be to resolve it but glad I changed the battery

That sounds familiar!

I bought my E86 in May 2016 and noticed a few months later it seemed a bit reluctant to start, even when fully warmed up.

Then in October it threw up an Amber EML, but it didn't appear next time I used it. But then the EML returned in November so I booked it in for a diagnosis in December, and sure enough the battery died while the garage was running the diagnosis!

New battery fitted, codes cleared and no more sluggish starting or EMLs. :)
