Starting in 2nd

When they first launched a few of the press were reporting 4.8s 0-60 which was I believe done by starting off in second.

I do it if I ever can, in the same way you can pretty much dump it in 6th and torque it around town on tickover being lazy.

Hard to imagine the gear change slows down the launch considering the ferocity it attacks first gear, although I have a feeling first gear is slightly limited in the ECU, sure someone will disprove me... In the same way you cant rev it above 6000rpm in neutral.

Thats true.

In first gear power is limited by fuel/air ratio.. Its electronically kept to stoich % of 14:1...

Exdos has done some graphs if you read his posts..

It would be interesting to see what these cars could do 0-60 in with the aid of a proper launch control system as seen in the Nissan GTR (i.e. one that doesn't fry your clutch like the E60 M5 one does).

I recall Autocar getting a 0-60 of 5.1s for the Z4MC and 0-100 in 11.9s, so 60-100 in 6.8 seconds. That was comparable to 1M Coupe 6.7s, TTRS 6.7, RS3 6.7s, 2012 Boxster S 6.7s, E92 M3 5.5s, 991 Carrera 6s, oh and Veyron Super Sport 2.4s!!

All of the comparison cars (excluding Veyron 8) ) get to 60 in at least 0.4s faster than the Z4MC (according to Autocar) so it's a bit of handful to get off the line cleanly. I reckon without any increase in performance you could cut the 0-60 to 4.7 and 0-100 to 11.4 with a better deployment of the power off the line. It also reaches 130mph in an identical time to the TTRS and fractionally quicker than the 1M and RS3 so you can see how rapid the little beasties are !

EDITED to say : I think the Z4MR has always tested a bit quicker than the Coupe and that's because it's 0-60 is better (something like 4.8 I think).

Yea,

Seen 11 seconds flat 0-100 mph being quoted for roadster.. and 5.0secs 0-60mph..

Once they are rolling they are very quick, getting off the line quicly being the only hinderance..

See my post on Sports Mode (post 37 on Page 3) here: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=43076&p=614873#p614873

From my datalogging, it appears that the Z4MC already has a launch control system in 1st gear.

Interesting exdos. Perhaps I should've said a more efficient way of delivering all of its power more effectively to the road for a faster launch.
