I will need to replace mine as it is always touch and go if it is going to turn without feeling like it is getting stuck.

Are the replacement units always exchange units? I can see a Lukas unit for about £130 at Autodoc, I assume that is the make to go for.

The eBay jobs seem to be half that though at about £70
 
Bought myself a Denso to replace the original one. The OEM one was Denso too, and swapping it out made a substantial difference! Throws the engine round considerably quicker now :thumbsup:

Check euro car parts their prices are ok (ish) and you can get your deposit back the same day

Perhaps utterly superfluous, but with the intake out you might as well check the crankshaft sensor, intake manifold gaskets, DISA’s and -if applicable- PCV system :thumbsup:

Did those before my last trip, glad I did them in one go. Also, rather than disconnect everything from the junction box underneath the intake, simply undo the two T25 bolts holding the mounting bracket in place and lower it down.

Finally: make sure not to snap off the connectors underneath inlettube 6, they’re easy to miss while dismantling. Good luck!

Fair enough, you can indeed get to it without removing the whole inlet by the looks of things! I had to do the PCV so it all had to come out anyway
 
I did mine and got over the counter from Euro car parts, as I took in the old one when I bought the new one they credited me at the time. On the 2.2 it is easy as there is less in the way and I didn’t have to remove anything else to get to the starter. I was surprised how easy it was. I think the 2.5 and 3.0 is a little more awkward
