Starter motor testing

Hi,

Please could anyone advise the correct way to bench test my Z4 starter motor using a spare battery?

There are 3 terminals, the center +ve connection, the middle sized terminal which had a black cable connected which I assume is the -ve and then the smallest terminal which had a black/yellow cable connected.

Am I correct in thinking that with the +ve and -ve connected, I then just temporarily connect a +ve feed to the smallest (black yellow) terminal to spin the motor?
