Starter motor replacement

Hi all

I know there's 2 posts on this but I'm having an issue when looking to replace the starter motor. I'm trying to do this without removing the inlet manifold. Apologies if any dumb questions, but on planning I can't see how to actually pull the motor out the engine bay with this firm foam covered pipe in the way. Is it meant to be pulled under and towards you? I can't see how else to get it out as it won't fit through the gap between that and the bell housing? Unless I'm mistaken.

Car is e86 z4 coupe 3.0si n52 engine with silver top on engine

Thanks yes I've read that thread extensively but there's no mention of anything blocking the motor when you take it out. I suspect my car the silver top engine has the PCV on this side which is what the foam pipe is and is blocking it so can't remove the starter without removing the inlet manifold but wondering if anyone can confirm
 
Just had a look at the relavant pages in BMW TIS which revealed that the intake plenum has to be removed to get the starter motor out.
Necessary preliminary tasks:

Switch off ignition.
Disconnect battery earth lead.
Remove intake plenum.

Once out of the way the starter motor can be unbolted and removed upwards and out.
 
I also tried without removing inlet manifold but ended up taking it off. Ended up replacing the CCV system and inlet manifold gaskets at the same time.
