Replacement starter motor

Hi
Just wondering if you have any recommendations for a replacement SM for my E86 SI with 94k on the clock, I’ve done some online shopping but been struck with “analysis paralysis” seems to be so many with hugely varying prices so does anyone have any experience with a suitable one to buy please? Ie part number or best place to get one please

Quick look on Carparts4less for 2008 Z4 3.0SI showed this one up https://www.carparts4less.co.uk/starter-motor
Autodoc site searched on part number 12412354701 brought up over 50 makes at various prices.
I replaced my 2.5 starter using a RTX unit from 4less fitted easy and still going strong.
Double check your starter part number using the Realoem site by entering your last 7 letters and digits of your Vin number.
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/select
Also note that in the parts listing it states the mounting bolts are one time use so you will need a set of part no 12410392577 as well
Carparts4less ship from London you have to get a return code and label from them to send the old unit back for a refund of surcharge, thats what I had to do for my 2.5
Autodoc ships from Berlin so delivery takes longer.

I had to do mine earlier too...

+1 for the RTX.
I believe Bigwinn used one too, as it was he who recommended it to me.

I think the N52 has even less space. I did my starter while I had the manifold out for the CCV, so for the OP have a good look beforehand.

Another +1 for the RTX starter. I fitted one back in the summer when my original '03 unit died. I paid £67 for mine from my local EuroCarParts (Wigan) and so far so good. It cranks like a good 'un and at that price if it only lasts 2 or 3 years then it's not the end of the world

I recently changed my starter in my 3.0si. I went for the RTX from eurocarparts. Think I paid £113 but then got £24 back when I took my old one in. I had to take the manifold off as there is no way to get the starter out. From what I’ve read most engines it can be done without removing anything else….but the CCV is right in the way on the silver top n52.
