Starter issue identified!

So my car hasn't been able to start for nearly two weeks now. No click, no nothing.

Having just got my head around INPA and DIS I've managed to narrow it down to error code 2f45 which is an ews-timeout. Looking this up online it says this is when the immobilizer no longer communicates with the DME, usually caused by a battery failure or failed ignition key. Well, I have a new battery so that narrows it down to the key (immobilizer doesn't see the key).

However it also says:

"Aftermarket keys will not work I.e. eBay etc. The keys for these cars are VIN specific and need to be supplied by the dealer only!"

Does anyone know if this really is the case?

After that it says "After replacing the key and regaining key identification the immobilizer (CAS/EWS) must be aligned with the DME".

Has anyone had any experience with this? I'm hoping it isn't going to cost me a fortune to fix

Old battery? Has it been changed recently?

These cars do weird things when the battery is low and getting on a bit

My 2006 3.0 had same issues, turn key all light come on, radio etc but no click or crank. Before this happened I did notice that the last couple of times it started it seemed to crank slow like battery was going dead. Checked battery, voltage at 12.6 so thought maybe it was clutch switch. Did some reading in various forms about maybe its the key but I found one that said before their starter went out it cranked slow. Last night I decided I was going to start with the starter so I went and bought one and installed it (about 3 hours) and turned the key and she fired right up. Hope this helps. Cheers

Jay, is this before or after we spoke?

Mike

Sorry Mike, this is before we spoke. New key should fix it, looking forward to getting back behind the wheel I'm stranded lol

I did have a few issues with the battery and replaced it but all worked well after that, apart from going into transport mode which I've managed to delete now. The key had been gradually dying though for a while and a new key battery didn't help so I'm pretty sure that's where my issue is.

Thanks for the advice 1ChkyBgr, it's another place to look if a new key doesn't sort it.

Got Mike coming out to take a look on Monday.
