Start-Off Assistant Fault

Hi all,

My Start-Off Assistant is still working in reverse, but has stopped in first gear. There must be a sensor that tells the ECU that first gear is engaged. Anyone have any idea where it is?

Regards,

Meeko

I thought the hill assist worked from brake / clutch pedal & not specific gears :?

And no lights?

When my ABS module went the hill assist stopped working.

There are no warning lights displayed, and the fact that it works if you engage reverse makes me think the ABS ECU just doesn't know the car's in first gear - as Flimper says, first gear must be engage for it to work.

It's not a major issue, but I did read that the engine map changes when a gear is engaged, so wonder if it's affecting perforamnce too.

Im not 100% ssure on the M

But reverse gear switch also acts as first gear switch too on many other models...

Looking on real OEM,there isnt any other switches on the gearbox or selector mech..

The start-off assistance only works if you take your foot off the brake pedal with the clutch depressed. Nothing to do with gears as far as I'm aware.

Hill start assist works in first and reverse on my car. I haven't tried any other gears.

Thanks for your help everyone. I'll get BMW to investigate when it goes in for the Inspection II next year. It's under warranty anyway, I was just trying to avoid the £100 excess :)

I tried this last night. My hill start assist works even when in neutral.
Really? That's surprising - I'm pretty sure mine doesn't. Are you sure you were on a hill? :P
