Hello all,

I will be flying a charter trip to Stanstead airport on Sept. 28 and returning to the US on Oct 1st. At this point I'm not sure where we'll be staying. Can anyone give any recommendations what to do near Stanstead if we don't stay in central London? I would also be inclined to share a pint or two with any members in the area.

Go central London, Stanstead is in the middle of nowhere ...

about an hour. Less if traffic is light though, more if you land on a friday at 5 :)

Thanks pvr. We'll be landing around 10 pm after a long flight from Charlotte, NC. We're leaving at 8 am on the 1st so maybe we'll stay in Stanstead and just drive into London on a day trip.

I'd go by train. It's a 45 minute non stop ride to the centre. Parking in London is plain difficult and expensive with congenstion charges to pay on top. Alternative is drive to the edge then get the tube in.

Whatever happens don't stay in Stansted. They built it there as there is nothing around as pvr says.

If London is too much then Cambridge to the North is worth a visit as one of the historic university towns

Ditto above, go to central London on the 'Stansted Express' - comes in at Liverpool St.

There's at least 2 of us that work in the city, although I'm away those dates, on a sunny beach in Marbella (hopefully anyway).

Using the feedback from all of you I told the company we did not want to stay in Stanstead. Now we'll be staying at the MARRIOTT MARBLE ARCH LONDON. Any feedback on this hotel? Location, things to see, good pubs, bad pubs, etc.
