Just about to hit 100,000 so looking to refresh the break discs, shockers & springs & thought I would start with the local Sytner costs for standard parts - so here goes all prices are supply only inclusive of VAT

Discs - full set £710 (UK supply no lead time)
Front Shockers - £675 (Germany supply 1 week lead time)
Rear Shockers - £418 (Germany supply 1 week lead time)
Front Springs - £268 (Germany supply 1 week lead time)
Rear Springs - £272 (UK supply no lead time)

So a total cost of £2,343 before any fitting expense - obviously my next question is how the above compares to anyone elses experience and is it worth considering non-standard options?
 
I'd speak to Cotswold or Douglas Park for discounted OEM parts. Or search the part numbers on ebay as sometimes there are kits, might come with an E46 M3 brake pad sensor but can easily sort a Z4M one.

I'd go OEM for Brake Discs and Pads and a Bilstein B12 Kit for Dampers / Springs (£700-800 for the set of four dampers/springs) and probably do bushes while in there.

Hi, I went to Harry Fairbairn BMW and got a discount for disks (F+R) pads (F+R), sensors, clips, and even 4 dust shields (the parts that sit behind the disks) for £890... maybe worth giving them a call? I spoke with a gentleman named Elliot and mentioned the Z4 Forum.

For the Front and Rear springs, I would go Eibach (£200) for the full set...

Unfortunately these toys aren’t cheap.

If that was me in your shoes I would go OEM discs and suspension tbh.

Unless you have intentions of tracking the car, there is no need to go aftermarket.

In relation to discounted parts, my understanding is that Cotswold only provide this to M3Cutters forum members and BMW Car Club members.

The sponsored dealer which provides discount for Z4Forum members is Soper of Lincoln.

However, Douglas Park provide great discounts (regardless of forum/car club membership). Mark Mcghee (Instagram name: topazm3) is the man up there.

It may be worth getting a quote from each dealer so that you can find the best deal.

I took a punt on a secondhand set of dampers last week due to the cost of new. I paid £150 for fronts and rears with 12k on them (yes I was dubious!) they are like new with no rust or corrosion. I fitted them myself along with new strut mount bearings and rear bushes and the car is transformed! I got lucky on this occasion that's for sure but the bargains are there. My car has a 100k on the clock too and sure as the experts on here say, the shocks were indeed very tired!

Are Bilstein B12 a better - and more economical - option for shocks / springs ?

Also, I doubt Sopers would ship those parts to you, last time I bought rear discs they wouldn't ship because of size / weight.

I ended up going to Ocean BMW in Plymouth as they were the cheapest I could find - worth trying them too ? Harry Fairbairn look similarly priced to the rear discs I bought.

Agree - at under £800 the B12 kit feels like a no brainer as does replacing the bushes for what would appear to be just over £100 :thumbsup:

OEM equivalent Bilsteins are not better than stock.

Bilsteins are only worth it if you wish to upgrade the stock suspension to a coilover set-up.

On what metric do you base that statement exactly?

Bespoke engineering and testing.

Not to mention it will be easier to move the car on if it’s on OEM suspension.

I suggest you sit in a car with brand new M suspension vs one with OE equivalent Bilstein/aftermarket suspension to discover for yourself. :thumbsup:
