Standard seats- repair

Hi all

Advice please: standard seats- heated and memory

The bolster and back has wear- is it easy to swap the back like for like with a donor seat?

Are the memory backs different to manual seats?

Assume the heated loom can be unclipped

Anyone done similar?

Stuart, I'm a bit surprised at you asking this from your all your work in your great 'how to' post [https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=123541&p=1763571&hilit=Heated+seats#p1763571] :poke: Am I missing something :?
Having said that, I'm pretty sure the backs are the same, all the motors lie underneath the seat. The heating loom will simply unplug but you'll have to move the heating element to the new seat back assuming it's not already got one.
If it's any help I have a pair of very decent black standard sports seats (memory but not heated) in my shed if they're any help to you.

Dave

You know me Dave- always wanting to try new things

I’ve done straight seat swaps but never repaired or taken seats apart…

Time to weigh up if repair is the best option over replacement this time… (new project car incoming!!!)

I bought a set of heated powered seats on here (wrong colour) & had the heating elements moved over to mine. I looked at this thread https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=84093&p=1247676&hilit=Seat+repair#p1247676 (not standard seats I know) & decided to let someone do it for me! At the same time he replaced some of the damaged foam. Very happy with end result.
I then stripped the donor seats which was straight forward and gave most of the parts to forum members before scrapping the remaining parts. The spare black seats I have now were bought purely for the drivers back panel which kept falling off. As a bonus it has a net on the back  I daren't use it though in case it stresses the back & falls off again  . I guess I'll get round to stripping these down at sometime unless I can move them on here.

Thanks Dave I'll have a read; I'm used to sorting the older E30 seats (which were seemingly made of very soft cheese)

The new project is incoming on Monday so will have a look whether its repairable or needs a replace- I may drop you an offer you cant refuse on the spare seat you have...

Stuart, here's a pic I've just taken of my drivers side one. Not perfect but pretty good I would say. If any use to you I'm a fan of Malbec :D .

They look brilliant- would you hang on to them until I can get the car back home for a proper review- I think that they would be a nice project to swap over the looms/pads for heating

And if I recall correctly I have a very nice few bottles of Malbec that could make the deal work!!!

Cheers Dave! You arent that far from me either are you?

Not a problem Stuart, they can happily sit in my shed for now. Let me know either way once you get your project  .
Not too far, 50 miles ish. I'm in a village near Ilkeston.
