Standard HU + DSP - iPod integration

I know this has been covered before to an extent, but I've spent a lot of time searching this and other forums and have been unable to find a definitive answer.

I have a 56 plate Coupe (production date 28/06/2006) with the Business Radio with DSP and 6 disc changer. No sat nav. No Bluetooth. No Aux. For absolute clarity the build sheet includes:
S662A -  Radio BMW Business CD
S672A -  CD changer for 6 CDs
S677A -  HiFi System Professional DSP


What I wan't is to be able to use my iPhone (6 if is makes a difference) as the music source. If possible, I also want to keep the use of the MFSW controls for skipping tracks etc.

What are my options?

I have an aftermarket stereo but I understand DSP makes this difficult to install. Annoyingly, before I realised this I purchased the various adapters I thought were needed to for this install - everything worked fine except for the sound

I believe I could get a simple aux-in and not have the MFSW controls.

Are there any other options that will give me what I want with my exact setup? So far every post I've found relates to something slightly different.

Hi Wiggy, someone with experience of this will come along soon I'm sure. First port of call is Intravee Or dension. I know from the dension website they give you what unit is compatible with your system.

Also out of interest....assuming you got iso blocks that connect from the pre outs of an aftermarket HU into the original plugs of the bmw dsp/amps??

There are a few options. Intravee is best if you have Nav, but as you don't I would go for a Dension.

Except that a quick look on the Dension site gives me:

Manufacturer: BMW
Model: Z4, (E85)
Year: 2003-2008
Head Unit: Business CD

IMPORTANT INFOMATION:
Head Units with DSP are not supported.

Every time I've looked into a suggestion I've found online I find a reason why it won't work with my setup :x

Intravee will work fine, but you will have to program via a laptop.

You could go for a parrot system then you would get bluetooth as well

I think you could use an aftermarket headunit though as its an analogue DSP system and not digital, would be worth a try if you have all the bits.

This is the way I wanted to go as, although it wouldn't look great, it would be practical and could always be swapped back easily enough. I have in my possession the following:

When I wired this little lot up to my aftermarket head unit (Sony MEX-BT3800U) I couldn't get anything but the very faintest of sound through the speakers, which I put down to the amp not being powered up or properly connected to the source. If there is something relatively simple I am missing with this setup then any thoughts would also be much appreciated.

BMW had (have) an iPod integration device ,not very sophisticated that replaces the 6 x plug in back of head unit.cable sits in glove compartment and I plug an iPod into it (semi permanently )
Uses the MFSW controls but has a quirky method of storing tracks ,to mimic a Multi CD player
I have exactly the same OEM and had the Dealer fit the BMW unit when I purchased car
