standard height sport springs

guys im yet to do a newbie post becuase im waiting for the weather to sort itself out so that i can get some pics of the car for you but untill i do can somebody with a facelift 2.5si sport please measure the gap between top of tyre and arch at the rear, i have the factory split rims on this car with standard tyre size, failing this can someone with an incredible beard please tell me what the standard gap should be?

before i bought it less that 10 days ago and was told it had rear springs swapped out for new ones due to one snapping and i cant help think its too high in the rear and suspect they have fitted a std non sport set of springs... or im just paranoid.

I had the same problem. The guy I bought it from had one snap so he replaced both with oem and it does sit high, so I checked with two others and they are the same.
Mines a 3.0si but has 19" non bmw wheels so it fills the arch a bit better. I like the ride quality and am not prepared to sacrifice that for style.

This might help:

The suggested BMW factory measure point is as follows:
Attach measure to rim flange at bottom middle and measure to lower edge of wheel arch. By rim size you should get:

Series (Standard)
Front Rear (MM)
16" 589 576
17" 605 592
18" 617 604
19" 630 617
20" 643 630

Sport or ///M suspension
Front Rear
16" 574 560
17" 590 576
18" 602 588
19" 615 601
20" 628 614

All should be +/- 10mm

This goes to 2006 cars, although I'm not sure later are any different

That certainly looks on the high side, compared to mine, although they will settle a bit.
 
I'd accept 'should get out more' but not 'beard'.... :)

Z4 springs hardly settle hence why dealers always used to replace under warranty as single springs (well aside being tight on costs too)
 
They are most definitely not sport springs.

What has happened is they have either fitted se springs or have purchased replacements from somewhere like eurocarparts which are incorrect. It's happened a few times on here.

Easiest way to tell is to look at the rear springs and you should see 3 bright blue marks on the middle coils. If they are there, they're oem sport springs from BMW. Like so,



If they're not, they're either standard springs or aftermarket replacements which are no good for sport equipped cars, unless you get the correct ones from a company called Suplex.

i bought the car less than 10 days ago and stated that i thought it looked high before i took it they said theyre the right springs for that car.... can i go back and ask them to get me the correct springs ect or is it now you bought it now get on with it???

just to add there will be no settling time as they fitted them when it was first part exchanged a few weeks before i purchased it so thats as low as theyre going to go!!

I'm not 100% certain this is the case anymore. I had mine replaced at BMW and the replacements had no markings. They still had the labels attached which showed the correct part number for sport springs.
