Stalling etc

Been having a problem with car stalling lately and lumpy idle. When car is idling if I tap accelerator pedal the revs go down and then up the car almost cuts out completely. Its a low running nightmare, has anybody else experienced this,I was thinking maybe a dodgy throttle position sensor or the like?

A search for TPS or 'hesitation' should bring up a long discussion; I found that changing both the TPS sensors (one on the throttle actuator under the air intake plenum and one on the rod at the front of the engine behind the oil filter) improved the issue greatly. Whilst I changed the parts myself it did not completely solve it until a specialist calibrated the system properly.

Andy Beech messaged me regarding my fix and the reply may be useful to others.

"I did not know myself that the front tps had some fine adjustment on it until I mentioned it in a conversation to the specialist who undertook my inspection 2 service (Darcjac racing in Halstead Essex)

I had that annoying stumble when coming off idle where the revs would die and leave me spluttering away. Tapping the throttle at idle made it more pronounced.

Changing the front TPS of the throttle rail didn't help much but then I learnt of the second TPS by the throttle actuator under the air box. Both tps were the same part number. I changed this and it improved significantly but was not perfect and the initial throttle response felt a bit dull. I was told you need to plug a computer in and slacken the screws and finely zero the front tps to get a crisp throttle response (Darren kindly did that as part of the service). Now pulls very keenly (although the valves needed a lot of adjustment too!).

I might fire up dash command to see if there are any obvious sensor read outs for the front tps as this could help others reset them with a 10 quid OBD scanner from Amazon :)

An interesting and informative reply. Thank you. Doesnt do it when cold for some reason?
