Stainless Steel Start/Stop Button

Nice little improvement for the interior, turns out most BMW starter buttons are the same size so got hold of a start/stop button from the new 7 Series, dismantled it and with a bit of modification swapped it over to fit the Z4 starter.
All lights up as it should and is definitely nicer to have a metal button rather than plastic :)

These come in many forms stainless looks great on your dash, I have a cut crystal one with red lighting round the edge. You dont need to dismantle anything, just put some nice sticky plasticine or similar on the button, pull hard and sharp and it just pops out of the fitting, new one pops in, simples.
 
Looks good, nice that it's a proper OE item not an eBay cheapie.

How involved was the mod to get rid of the auto start stop part?

This is so very true, I received one of those crystal stop start button with the red ring on the outside from Alixpress, I mounted it and 5 minutes later removed it. It protruded so much from the rest of the area and the illumination was rubbish. It is now sitting in it's packaging. It's a reminder not to buy crap from eBay Alixpress etc. anymore.

Thank you, being a proper OE part rather than some Chinesium tat is infinitely better, for sure.

It's fairly involved to be honest, I did it by taking the button cover off of the 7 Series part, modifying it to suit the Z4 button before using an epoxy resin to bond it in place after getting it to locate properly. It's perfectly repeatable, you just need to be careful not to remove too much material from the 7 series part and an eye for getting everything lined up correctly.
The black button on the Z4 starter was of course removed as was the little light filter behind it, the stainless one has a filter built in so doesn't need it.

The part number for the 7 series one is 61319869563 however isn't a plug/play sort of thing at all, it does require some imagination as described above to make it work!
The number relates to both the steel button and a silver plastic one as well, it's easy to tell them apart but just something to be aware of.
