Stainless steel brake lines

Hi everyone! Brake oil will need changing soon, and I am thinking of upgrading the oil (to Motul RBF 600), and also change the brake lines to stainless steel items.

I saw a few kits available in the UK, namely from HEL and Exacto, but these seem to be 4 line kits only.

As far as I can see the Z4 has 2 rubber lines at the front, and 4 at the rear (see lines 5 and 11 - a pair of these per rear wheel), hence a 4 line set up does not seem sufficient.

I only managed to find 6 line kits in America, like these.

After searching the forum I noticed some members have already changed their lines to stainless steel, but I could not find whether they were 4 line or 6 line kits. Could you share your experiences on this?

Also, how many litres of oil should be needed for the change?

I took the easy way out (or so I thought) and got my local independent dealer to deal with it. Whilst I can't tell you exactly what they replaced, it took them a couple of attempts to get it sorted out. Their supplier sent hoses which were too short. We ended up sending the old ones to the supplier so they could match them as the manufacturer's specs may have been wrong.

Once installed, it was a great improvement, although I replaced the discs (OEM) and pads (Mintex) at the same time! My only complaint is that they do squeal a bit. My garage offered to put OEM pads in, but I decided to stick with the performance and live with the noise...

i have the AP racing Brake kit which came with braided hoses... now the front and rear brake lines were bolted up but their are 2 tiny rubber brake line pieces that weren't included in the set, i.e they dont make the 6 line set only the 4 line set..... i dont lose any sleep over the 2 rubber pieces really.. i couldnt however tell you how much brake feel was added due tot he lines as i did it as part of the BBK install which gave a solid brake pedal feel... Really nice improvement, im guessing some of that improvement came from the SS brake lines....

I had mine done 2 weeks ago by a company Dixon Motorsport in Bexley.

I had Hel lines fitted and the Motul fluid.

There are indeed 6 hoses, the rears are a 2 part hose on each side.

When they changed mine they made custom hoses for the rears as a 1 piece fit. So now I only have 4.

Well worth it.

I live SW London, so Bexley is not too far from me.

Skelts, did you buy the fluid separately, and how much did the whole thing cost you (fluid+changing hoses)? If you have a contact I can speak with at Dixon it would be great
