Stability Control system failure

Hi all,
Whilst slip-sliding on the ice today I turned my DSC off to help get a lil wheelspin as I was stuck. When I parked the car up I noticed I have a few warning lights on.
I have amber lights on the DSC, Brake system, ABS and Run flat indicator.

According to the manual the combination of DSC, ABS and Brake being on indicate a failure of the Stability Control systems. An amber light on the run flat indicator can indicate a failure of the runflat sensor.

Anyone had either of these problems before and know what went wrong?
Its booked in next week and luckily I have a couple of weeks warrenty left.

Cheers

Could be a gremlin in the car somewhere - it can happen. I would disconnect the battery for a bit or overnight and then test things again tomorrow.

I had DSC, brake and runflat lights on a couple of weeks ago. Still not sure what the problem was - they went off after I restarted the car, not been on since. Put it down to a gremlin this time round, but if it happens again I will get it checked.

You didn't switch the DSC all the way off I guess, only halfway ? Just curious :D

Not if you are alive :D

You only really need to press the button briefly to switch DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) on though - should give you enough slip but still provide assistance. Holding it till it's all off - never done it in the snow, but intending to try on Sunday morning :D

Ahh I see.
hehe, I tried it on, Pressed once (Dtc on) and all the way off. I couldent move her with any setting.
Thats twice its snowed in a year and twice its got stuck. Next time it snows im walking instead !

I had brake, abs and dsc warning lights come on a 3-series and it was just a sensor on the rear wheels that had gone. As i was driving it, the milage wasn't going up - wish i'd just kept it on lol

I have seen ABS and stability warning lights appear before in these conditions. Snow gets packed in between sensors causing an error code and a dash light.

Worth considering?

That's a sensible suggestion given how much snow gets in the arch if the wheels are spinning...

Probably true, happens when off roading. Mud drys onto the sensors and stops them working. If the answer system doesn't know what the wheel speeds are it won't be able to control slip and hence will throw up an error.

If it does it again find the sensors and clean them up a bit :-)

Hello all hope you dont mind me jumping in on this thread. I have exactly the same problem. It was intermittent would come on turn off ignition then gone. But now the lights are on all the time

So i am thinking its an ABS sensor as i am sure i damaged it when i was replacing my RTAB. There is a little plastic box with 2 wires going in and 2 coming. It is attached to the body of the car in the rear wheel arch below the petrol filler (hope that makes seance) Could one of you lovely forum guys or galls confirm or deny if that's the ABS sensor. I cant seem to find the part on realOEM I can find the plastic box the wires go into but not the components inside.

Thanks Monkey

I believe that is the ABS sensor. There is a good guide with pictures/video about replacing it. I'll look for it and let you know if I find it.
