Squeaky steering

Evening all

A little advice please. I've put this in the right section now :(

I recently noticed that my steering is squeaking on my E85 when making slow speed/parking manoeuvres, it may have been there before but I've not noticed it and being new to Z4 ownership not sure if it's common and what the cause may be?

If you are stationary and rotate the wheel 1/4 turn or so left and right it makes this squeaking sound.

Any experience and or cures advice would be appreciated.

Well ...... it seems to be from the column/under the dash, as far as I can tell.
 
Its the strain on the steering while your hardly moving probably. I had it and cured it by getting under the car and exposing the steering
rack by pushing back the rubber gaiters. Use copper grease and brush it in as far as you can over the cogs. Pull back the gaiters and
use a plastic grip tie to hold in place. That's going to be the first thing for you to try before considering more costly options!

I will try that thank you. I've also viewed the post suggested and looked at the video but mine doesn't sound like that, it's more of a squeak than the whale mating call in the video :)
 
I've got a similar issue but only when the car is warm, car hadn't been used for a few weeks, after a few searches and a post on here I started with checking tyre pressure, fronts were below where it should be and once inflated the noise stopped, car then went another 2 weeks without moving and the noise has returned so thinking it's more likely to need a bit of lubrication, just need to get myself a jack and a dry day as don't have a garage.

Ps : mines the whale sound!

My circumstances are similar in that I only notice it when I'm back from a drive and again only after a 10-12 day lay off. I will check the tyre pressures just to be sure :) mine is also outside so you do need to try and pick the weather before attempting much.
 
squeaking comes almost from front steering gear.

open the rubber seals on each side and grease the steering shaft with this grease http://de.bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/83232208093
