Well i got home this afternoon greeted with the NIP at 38mph / 30 zone , a fair cop & only muyself to blame ,
What is a choker for me is its 5 years almost to the day since my last speeding ticket & both times were in work van,s en route to work tasks

So i got the TT out , switched on the heated seats & had a fling over the moors for half an hour  glass of wine now & forget about it .

Not taking the awareness course if offered / they can have my cash but i,m not giving them my time

Ah sods law that it was coming to the time the last one would have been 'cleared' *I guess according to some insurers that take last 5 years into account (or am I just imagining some do that?).

What's the fine and penalty? Can't you avoid getting points if you take the course? :poke: :driving:

I took the course was offered, but will depend on how much your insurance will increase with 3 points.

When I had my first 3 points it made next to no difference in my premiums.

My latest 3 points (a good 10 years apart though) have been greeted by a 10-30% increase in quotes - although shopping around has meant I'm still paying about the same as last year.

£100 fine / 3 points , you save no cash by taking the course as they charge you for it anyway but i guess the no points on licence help,s with insurance ?
My other 2 were on the 7th Feb 2009 , by the time i send my licence off it should be after that date so perhaps they will add 3 & remove 3 ?
Whatever  life goes on & we all bend that bit further over the table :o

Why not do the course, regardless of cost difference/points etc?

some insurers are now increasing premiums if you have done the course, so not always possible to dodge increase by taking course instead of points, but....

If you are going to get stung anyway, then why not take the course as a bit of additional driver training? ok, so it will cost you half a day off work, which for some would be a valid reason not to do it, but any driver training has to be a good thing, and you will almost certainly learn something (or re-learn something).

No brainer IMHO.

my insurance asked me about speed awareness courses. they said it was not being considered in the premium they were just "gathering data". :headbang:

she did also say that technically you have committed the speeding offense and if no course was available then you would just get the points so when considering the risk factor of some one speeding how would it be different, 3 points or the course. given that some places dont offer them at all its way of leveling the playing field.

i left it at that as really she had a valid point and i dont have any points (touch wood) anyway.

its a shitter either way given the war on speeding and drivers in general.

unlucky +

, i had two scares recently and had the dreaded wait for the nip , three stressful weeks , but they never arrive, the first one was in my van , elbows on the wheel and playing the mouth organ , :? , i know one young girl who just passed her test and within three months was physically stopped by officers and reported for doing 102 in the roadworks on the motorway, and never heard another thing, that would have been a ban and a retest plus fine, just shows some slip through :?

That's just bollocks from a call centre muppet.

Every time you break the speed limit you commit an offence. It's only when you're get the points/fine/ban that it becomes a conviction. It's no different than being stopped by the TrafPol and being given a warning - are they going to start asking about them too?

However, despite there being no 'legal' way for them to check whether you've been on an SAC, you'd wonder if they have some 'illegal' way of finding it out.
