Squeaky Back End

Have noticed that my rear driver side spring has started squeaking when any one gets in or out of the car. Or when I push down on the rear corner. I read a lot of threads with people having spring problems. Does this mean i need to replace the spring or is there a simple fix? Any help grateful.

Mine the same, i don't think its the springs I think its got something to do with the hand break I believe, I might be wrong.

Sounds normal most car springs squeak now and then mine do not do it when getting in and out but i can hear them now and then going over speed ramps when i have the top down they did it before one snapped and still do it after replacement.

yep very common on all z4s, it's the handbrake

take it off and i bet you find it stops.

just don't do it on a hill, and if you do keep it in gear :P

mine does this, as others have said, normal for Z4 - my mums also does the same.

Agree with the handbrake. I was concerned with the same squeaking problem on mine so asked BMW to check the springs when in for a recent brake fluid change. They said the springs were in perfect working order. They went on to say that a spring had never been changed so this must be somewhat a record on a 2003 Z4 buy the seems of this forum !!!!!!

Mine does this, but its not the springs, it's the handbreak. As suggested earlier. Take the handbreak off and you will find the problem goes away. I asked BMW to look at this when I got the Z serviced. Problem went away for about a week then returned. I also had a simular problem with a previous 3 series.

Yep, drum pads on the handbrake. Squeaky.

Unload the rear suspension, wheel moves relative to body/suspension (and so rotates a tiny bit), and that means a tiny bit of drum vs pad friction = squeak...

Not much you can do about it except oil the drums :P
