Squeaks, rattles and a funny noise.

Right I now have my car back from the bodyshop and all good, I now now just need to sort a few little bits out.

The cup holders seem to squeak/rattle as I drive along. Any thoughts?

Now the serious one. From cold the car is fine but after driving for a while I get a noise from the front left wheel that sounds like it is coming from the something rubbing as the wheel rotates.

I think it is possibly the disc heat shield.

I know that I will have to take a few bits apart to investigate this but has anyone else had this?

Possibly a wheel bearing? If it was the heat shield I’d expect it to be there all the time rather than after you’ve been driving a while.

It is probably a binding caliper causing the 'rubbing' sound from your front left wheel. Check that wheel for excessive heat and brake dust

Cup holders. Eject and reinsert. Try folding the arm in like you do when you put smaller cups in (if you ever dare) Also try tightening the two screws that hold the unit in place.

PS took me a few months to eliminate all the creaks and squeaks from my Coupe. Had all the centre console out (which I wrapped in the process) Most of the squeaks came from where the storage cupboard panels mated against the speaker housing panels. So much plastic and none of it felt/rubber lined. Door cards also squeaked. A couple of clips were broken so they've been off before. Replaced and then added some foam strips throughout the entire cabin where plastic meets plastic and now it's silent and feels like quality car!

I’ve too been hunting and eliminating squaks and rattles in my roadster for 16 years now and added an exhaustive amount of felt tape. Luckily these cars are quite simple to dismantle and everything is documented in TIS. At this age the plastic parts seem to be fragile, though.

The only answer to eliminating all squeaks and rattles in a 3ltr e85 is a 2 step process.
1 press right hand button on centre consul forward of the handbrake and hold for 9 seconds.
2 put right foot on right hand side pedal and hang on until grin appears on face.

Does the noise from the wheel get louder when turning a corner, I had this on a car years ago and it turned out to be the wheel bearing.

Get these things checked out...

Wheel bearing
Heat shield
Sticking caliper.

For squeaks and rattles get some silicone spray.

While you're at it get some Gummifledge for the rubber seals.

Thanks for all of your comments.

Today I have taken out the aftermarket Pioneer head unit and put back the original BMW Business CD head unit. It looks like it should now.

With regards to the wheel bearing I'll get a local garage to take a look before spending any money on one.

I've also spent ages taking bots of trim out to try and find the Bluetooth module but have given up now. I'll get the local dealers to get the PK code for me.
