Squeaking noise when pulling off

When pulling off I get a squeking sound as the wheels turn... It only seems to happen when the cars been parked for a few hours, and only happens for a few feet of driving, after that it is fine for the rest of the journey.

Any idea what it could be? I had my brake pads changed about 4 weeks ago, but this sound has only been aparent in the last 2. I also thought if you have squeaky brakes they would squeak more often that just when you pull off...
 
Handbrake? Assuming you use it, for all the good it does. If you do use the handbrake try just leaving it in gear next time you're parked no the flat.
 
That would be my bet also, especially if you have new brakes. They are usually self adjusting but they often dont self adjust very well.
 
What would be the best way to address the problem? I had the pads changed on the front not the rear, so wouldn't of thought that would be affecting the hand brake.
 
If they had changed the rear pads it wouldn't have affected the parking brake - a "drum" type setup on the back of the hub... I think that's what I learned from Ed and CJ. I thought they may have knocked something when they fitted the brakes, but if they haven't done the rears it may be coincidence if it is the handbrake. Otherwise check to see if one of the pads is sticking on the front?
 
Right PawnSacrifice - the handbrake operates as an old style drum brake inside of the top hat of the rear disk. Since only pads have been changed then I assume that's it.

Most likely a caliper that is sticking a little as on new pads it will have been wound back to a new part of the piston. If not I'd be 1) ensuring I bedded the new pads in properly 2) the various retainer springs are correctly fitted.

Since it's only for a few feet I'll bet it will clear once the pads are settled.
 
Thanks for the help all :thumbsup: It's not a huge problem I guess, so will give it time to see if it cures itself. If not I'll pop it in the local garage.

My car also does this when commencing a journey (Wont say pulling off!). It squeals for like 6feet. It only occurs when its been parked for a while with the handbrake. After that it seems fine. Must be the handbrake sticking slightly, perhaps the springs/ pistons within the drum are slightly weak and take some time to retract?

It's certainly possible that after a period parked up wiht handbrake on the handranke lining will partially bond to the drum, or a slight amount of surface rust occur and need scraping off.

Try bedding thehhandbrake in by driving 100m at a slow speed with the handbrake manually pulled op firmly enough to fee the car being slowed. That's the official way to settle and bed in hanbrake shoes (and new rear disks, to burn the inside paint off). Might fix it for good
