Square wheels vs staggered

Hi guys, I've an opportunity to get a set of 415 wheels in 18" on my 3.0i which i rate over the 107s I have on currently, however they aren't staggered, 225/40/18 all around. Is this a good idea? Pros and cons? the offset is 34 so they look great on the car (personal opinion may vary)
Thanks!

Potentially slightly more oversteer, but in reality unless you drive like a loon, it'll just mean less understeer. I preferred how my 3.0i steered when it was on a 225 square setup.

I'd say do it, looks an interesting wheel, don't see many about on any car!

Agree with this, I much prefer the handling style with the square setup of my 103's I had compared to the staggered 107's I have now.

The oversteer slip always felt controlled and made you feel confident in the handling of the car. The 107's make the car feel dull and boring, too much grip on the rear.

Oh thats a really good question. I hadnt really thought about why staggered and just accepted that a lot of BMWs seem to be staggered these days. Its a bit of a nuisance when you cant rotate tires and if I want to keep spare wheel and tire I have to keep at least one for front and one for rear.

Has anyone tried a square setup on a Z4M? I think my tire sizes are currently : front - 235/40 R18 Y (95), rear - 275/35 R18 Y (99)

The square setup was standard fitment until you selected 18" wheels or the M Sport post face lift.

As sars said it's only the OE 18s that are staggered, smaller wheels were square. Same as my 3 Series at it's an SE so has 8J x 17 all round.

The problem with the M is the difference in offset front and rear. 224s are ET42 front and ET30 rear so to get an 8J front to sit out as far as the 9J on the rear would require a 12mm spacer, but I suppose it could be done that way. But an 8J rim on the rear would limit the width of tyre you could fit, which may be challenging on an M unless you like going sideways!
