Hey guys,

So like the previous autumn/winter I thought it would be nice to start a spring/summer thread, as it seemed pretty popular last time :D . Basically a thread to show the beautiful places you live, places you see/been, the cars you drive, your situations/adventures you get into and anything else that you have photographed!

Basically introduce yourself, what you were doing, where you were and for the gear guys like me, would be great to know what you were shooting with

Il start us off

Been crazy weather in Cumbria recently and although a pain... I kind of love it. Been getting out as much as a can. But it would be nice to see a bit more spring, more like February than April, anyway I digress.

The lakes are particularly beautiful in the snow, but really very treturous. Was time to get the ice axe and crampons on and lug the camera to as many places as possible. Thankfully to my surprise the Mini Cooper S has been a godsend and hasnt let me down once with the heavy snow. Last week in particular was bad most of the lake road had 8ft snow drifts like driving through a tunnel of snow not knowing really where you were, most of the roads were closed or left to one lane. But didnt have any real problems. Only prob was the Z was tucked up for over 6 weeks

Anyway heres the pics

That last one was this weekend, shot at the bottom of Helvellyn (haven't finished editing the rest yet). Its had so much snow that the rope tows for skiing and snowboarding have been running for 6 weeks which is unheard of. I was on my way to striding edge although I had crampons and an ice axe, there was around 12-20" of snow toward the summit (I dont usualy stick to the paths but it was too much hard work) the wind was up and it was just too dangerous to cross striding edge. For those that haven't heard or seen striding edge it is as sharp arête which leads to the summit but I was doing it the other way round so would be going down. This is what it looks like:

Not my image but close to what it would have looked like that day. Its really pretty dangerous place, at 3,117 ft above sea level winds get up to 70mph and at around 3-4ft at its widest people who aren't prepared get blown off it or fall so I decided not to risk it although the photographs would have been incredible :(

Nice in better weather tho

Sorry for the long post. Looking forward to seeing your images

Fantastic Tom - I love looking at your pics.

As it is not even spring here yet, never mind summer, will some rubbish tourist pics of Rome do when we get back next week ? It will apparently be sunny and 19 degrees on Sunday, so I should get some reasonable shots from the top of the Colosseum  :D

Nice phots the ullswater one is my fave.

I love the lakes favourite place in the sober hours :)

Is that striding edge in one of them? Swirral edge I mean.

There both there, no?

crampons = striding. lady in pink = swirral?

oops, the pics distracted me from the written!!

Some great snaps there tom you really are very very good mate.

We'll have to meet up some time and take some snaps of the cars and have a bit of a hoon. Not sure how far down into the lakes you come but I regularly go for a blast up towards coniston/windermere/ambleside. Dunno if anyone else lives up in gods country?

Ye ste we should do at some point. I do sometimes but haven't for quite a while with all the crap weather. Il give you a shout when we get some better weather!

@jonny - I use a Canon 5DMKIII and a little Sony Nexus 5N for most of my shots. All the images are post processed but only about 10 mins an image apart from a few tweaks there pretty much as they are shot. Some of the snow shots are bracketed tho because its hard work exposing for the high contrast, so usualy bracket one stop under to expose the sky and snow properly and then one bracket for the rest and combine them in PS

Lovely pics Tom, you've got the perfect setting up there, that's for sure.

Just one from me, no where near your level, but I'll be trying to practice more as it warms up.

It's the bot of gold at the end of the rainbow...
