Spring Clean {PIC HEAVY}

Looking good :)

One thing I would recommend though is to get some latex gloves for doing the dirty jobs like exhausts, at 5-6p a time it's much nicer than getting that dirt ingrained in your hands.

Awesome work Dan

Car looks fantastic and is a real credit to you!

Have been meaning to get round to a similar task of late but haven't had the time and plumber still hasn't been to install the outside tap!

I especially like the regimented lines in the floor mats though and the blue looks fantastic when shiny! Great write up too

Hi coupedan,

Excellent results for your hard work!!!
How do you find the clay mit opposed to the clay bar?

Gorgeous car BTW...now to get it dirty again! :driving:

Wow. Mega impressed. How long that take ?

.......

So as the title states, it was time for a little Spring clean - by little I mean large...
So started at 11.20AM Saturday morning and finished the first stint at 7.30PM Saturday evening.
Then started again at 11AM this morning and finished finally at around 1.10PM this afternoon. So a total of just over 10 hours to "Detail" my Zed.

.........

No idea Adam .. :poke: :D

Looks stunning

Dude, I barely have time to eat right now, let alone read text  Was too busy checking out the pics

OP

Thanks for the replies all, glad to see it has potentially helped some of you out :D

Harry911 - the clay mitt is so much easier than a bar, I probably saved a good 45 mins not having to do a panel, then clean the clay etc etc. in terms of results, it's not as effective as a bar but I'd say 90% there and in my view worth it, plus you can apparently use the mitt around 10 times or so.
I would probably renew after 3-4 times of usage, being that you shouldn't have to clay a car more than twice a year.

Adamski - you didn't read my into script  :poke:
But took me just over 10 hours to complete the lot.

Cheers,
Dan

Good work and lot of different phases.

In my opinion clay bar or mitt is not really mandatory if you are using proper cleaning products before polishing. With my years of experience good de-tar fluid will take 98% of all dirt which have been stick in the paintwork which is still left after wash mitt wash. I do recommend for example tardis or some similar strong cleaner.
I have had 2-3 clay bars laying in my garage for some years now, there was absolutely no need of those any more.

I've tried a clay mitt, a clay sponge and a couple of clay towels. Out of everything I've tried, the towel is definitely the easiest to use having 4 sections (with folding) and does just as good a job as normal clay, maybe even better for me as I always seem to miss spots when using a normal clay bar. I use the towel with the ONR solution used to wash the car with, saves loads of time :)

And remember boys and girls, claybar/mitt always leaves swirls behind. So dont use claybar if you cant correct it with rotary or da polisher. 8)

Really!?

So I've got my clay bar all ready to go then but seems like a waste if it's going to swirl the car and I don't have a rotary polisher!

Yep.. unfortunately. But if you dont mind about little swirls just go on.. Daily driven normal cars, no one sees those swirls.

I always use Junkmans (video blogger on youtube) plasitc bag test before and after claying to see how effective it is.

Basically, stick the thinnest plastic bag you can find over your hand, then run it gently over the paintwork. Its really amazing how it makes tiny particles feel like giant grains of sand.

Obviously once fully clayed, you can't feel thing - then its time to crack out the polisher. I've used the clay mitt same as OP and it worked fine, saving loads of time.

Nice job, interested to know what you used in the engine compartment.

I used some GT-85 basically similar stuff to WD40 but has more silicon content. Normally used for pushbikes lol

Clay bars don't inflict swirling they might marr the paint but only if an aggressive ones used. A clay like bilt hamber soft won't damage the paint at all, but it will show up the state of your paint in all its naked glory swirls and all :)

So unless I have a rotary polisher then I shouldn't really clay my car?

I was going to clay, wash again and then polish, wax, seal etc etc...
