spotted on autotrader zed I wrote off!

was just browsing autotrader for an e85 zed for my son and was surprised to spot my old zed that I wrote off in august 2011. It is a trader ad and doesn't
mention it is was a write off, I am not sure what category my insurance company used assume it was a cat c or d. Not quite sure what to do as would not want someone to buy it without knowing it's history especially as the deciding factor in the write off was the fact that the allignment of the front suspension was out, has anyone had any experience of this sort of thing? :o
 
I haven't had any experience, but depending on how involved you want to get, you could always pose as a potential purchaser and ask if it has had any accidents or ask whether all the panels are original. That's what I asked when I bought mine.

If he's an honest guy he may even come clean at that point. If he doesn't...

Alternatively you can say nowt and trust that the next person will get the appropriate checks done before they buy.
 
Yeah I would message posing as a potential buyer, nothing wrong with asking questions, it's not like he's going to sus you out.
I couldn't potentially let someone buy a written off motor for the price of a straight one, especially if I knew
 
Looks really tidy from the Photo's Hopefully the dealer is honest when some one arrives to look
 
This is interesting information to me as a couple of weeks ago went to view this car and didn't get the right "feeling" about it. Didn't get a chance to test drive but had a good walk around and asked quite a lot of questions including the unoriginal headlights and he didn't make any noises to suggest a write off. Apparently it has been the dealers private vehicle for 3 years and he bought it from bmw..
I'm on the lookout for a 3.0l Z4 and keeping a close look on all the places for adverts and this car in question has been put up £500 this week! You would hope things like this would be better avoided using a dealer rather than private but maybe not. I'm not sure i would have done a hpi check if buying from a dealer but I will now!

What actually happened to the car, hope you weren't injured yourself?
 
anyone run a HPI check on it? the advert doesn't mention that, and usually they do... presumably if someone runs the plate it will come back as being damage/recorded.
 
You can click the "report ad" button and there's an option to tick if its cat c/d.

You need to be 100% sure that it was written off and recorded tho.

checked with insurance company and was a cat d write off and have
reported the ad on autotrader, from one of the other posts it seems
as if this dealer is being economical with the truth perhaps he is also
a politician!

Depends on the buyer to be honest, some folk may not be put off by a CAT D if repaired nicely with before and after photos.

Although if there are pages of 3.0 Z4's will similar mileage HPI clear for the same price, then it will not sell without a good price drop.
 
I bought my Z 4 years after it was a write off and i'm quite happy with it, no issues *knock on wood*

but i think i got a really good deal and the seller listed it low because it had a salvaged title.
