Spotify

Can you use Spotify in the e89 z4 2016 without a car subscription?

Will it just run from my android phone ?
Use from your phone via Bluetooth. I used an Alexa Dot the same way.

You use your phones data but as long as your OK with that.......

If you want to use it direct from an App on your idrive then you need a subscription

If you have the Media option from the factory AND you use an iPhone then in Connected Drive you can use Spotify on the iDrive system. No subscription is required but it does need to have had Connected Drive from the factory or coded in with an FSC code at some point.
If, however, you have an Andriod phone then Connected Drive apps won't work. But you can still use Bluetooth to play any music app via the phone (skip track still works), and you'd have the tracking info on the screen.

Hope that helps

I don't get it.

I can't connect Spotify any way to the car. How does it connect to Bluetooth. .

How do I send Spotify music via bt to this thing ?

I've only got the free Spotify. Does that make any difference?

Ive copied this any it is broadly the same - try a system reboot first then give this a go.

in your iDrive, go to Main Menu/telephone/highlight your phone and press Option/configure phone/you should see a box next to "audio" that can be checked. This must be checked to allow music to be played from your phone through the bluetooth player.

Option button beside idrive knob!

Is it possible he does not have extended Bluetooth. If so he will need an adapter like this

In this image you don't have the option for Bluetooth Music, so you can't stream music via Bluetooth.

As per this...

Reamesy is spot-on, these work a treat. Whatever app you are using on your phone will be streamed to the iDrive with skip track control via the steeriong wheel buttons as well  You do need to have the combined USB/AUX socket in the center console.

I use one myself and can confirm although expensive, it works flawlessly as AnubisZed said. 😎👍

Check with a vehicle coder - I had the same situation with my 2016 - gave my VIN to a coder who unlocked it - I use amazon prime music and can skip using the steering wheel, cost me around £75.

I'll try and see if it works with Spotify tomorr

This car is proper junk.

I have an old astra in work about 10 years old .
pool car. It just did it seamlessly. It's Unbelievable

Here you go just in case you aren't too brassed off with the car.

If you have bought a car that has the ability then this should work

No longer have my 89 but can confirm Ronk's post. Mine worked perfectly when paired with the phone either Spotify or Amazon music.

Just as an aside, Spotify are doing a deal buy one month for £9.99 and get a further 2 months free, which is handy for G29 owners.

Welcome to BMW ownership, alas this is the BMW way, charge for everything you might want.
If the original owner didn't want to pay for it then it wasn't included. If it does have the Combox then it "should" be able to code in.

But if you really want a modern experience in your Z4 then go for an MMI box, in which you'll get Apple CarPlay / Android Auto so full access to Spotify (as well as a lot more, like Google Maps etc). Here's my installation video on it...
