Spotify vs Apple Music inncar

So someone mentioned to me that using the Spotify built in app on the car is better quality than using Apple car play (Apple Music or Spotify).
So I had an offer on Spotify and I have to say the sound quality is much much better!
Just in case I’m going mad with confirmation bias, has anyone else found his to be the case?

Looks like my ConnectedDrive plus contract is up for renewal shortly (contains Spotify) it's jumping up in price from £89 to £119!

Surely it will depend on whether Spotify premium downloads and stores the songs or streams them using the built in SIM. Also Spotify has yet to offer high resolution audio and so it is in a compressed format (AAC & lossy) and not a hi-res lossless format per Apple. However, I am unsure if Apple CarPlay actually plays lossless over the BMW Wi-Fi or it is still AAC, it certainly states the source quality level of the song on the phone but that doesn't mean it's playing it at that level.

My connected drive subscription was up a few months after I bought the car. I struggled to get a definitive answer as to what it did, other than ‘it will enhance your driving experience’. So I let it lapse.
To date I’ve not noticed any difference other than the Spotify app has gone from the cluster display, but I used Spotify via Apple CarPlay anyway

You will be missing all of the other wonderful apps like the one that tells you what the weather is like, luckily the car is fitted with windows and that allows me to guess that one. I've got the Harman Kardon system in mine, is it me or is it pants?

I'll need to investigate further as I'm sure I read that the latest update will also include the latest maps (was £79)

:D
Glad I didn’t renew then.
Personally I haven’t got the upgraded sound system, and I use Google maps or Waze for navigation.

According to Apple tech, lossless doesn’t work over wireless CarPlay. Wired CarPlay will have better sound quality.

Spotify app on phone will use the cars Harmon K processing.

I’m not sure it makes any difference, but one thing I do like is more reliable music selection on the HUD. Sometime Apple Music doesn’t sync properly and you just lose that feature.

I was in my friends i4 with idrive8 and the app is really slick and nice on that.

The Connected Drive now is £119 but with free map updates….
During this past year, I think there were only two map updates.
Yes the Hk is not great!!!!
