Sports + Mode

Ok hands up I’ve had my car for 5 years now from new and never used sports plus mode! The numpty I am I thought it took just took traction control off hence the warning light, I couldn’t of been more wrong. I noticed the display had a little plus added to sport wording!! OMG I nearly soiled my pants when accelerating and the bangs and pops as I left my village could be heard by my wife quarter of a mile up the road...I love it

Well I've had mine 5 years and I thought exactly the same, just turned traction control off. So what does it do then??

From memory

Stiffer Suspension
Heavier Steering
DCT shifts closer to redline and and holds higher gears on down shifts
Throttle sensitivity is adjusted
Gearbox shifts faster (I think, gearbox may have to be in S mode)
Over run increased to exhaust

I think Sunnydays sums it up perfectly

I think most of those changes occur with selecting sport alone, apart from relinquishing some traction/stability control what additions does the sport+ give over just sport?

In my 20i the only difference that is noticeable when in sport + is it lets the rear ended slip a little when pressing on in corners.

Other than that there is no difference to sport mode.

I wish it did give it a little more exhaust noise, because as standard it’s too bloody quiet!

You can leave the exhaust flap open for a deeper note if you feel it’s too quiet

I have done that Rob, but it only seems to make a difference on cold start. After a couple minutes of running it goes quiet again.

Now press sport+ and hold it for around 5 seconds till an orange dash light comes on and try it again...... This turns off ALL the stability and traction, not for rainy days or twistys unless you are a pretty competent driver...

So the only change with sport+ is an increased chance of going through a hedge backwards :P

I think it depends on the car, DCT 35i its pretty savage, cannot speak for the rest though.
If the car is mapped the software for traction can (and does) interfere with straight line accelaration, turning it all off seems to make a diference.
Certainly worth a pop.... :driving:

Sport + will definitely increase your chances of pranging it! Well I think it would as I don't consider myself a good driver. With my limited technical knowledge. The exhaust note has changed its louder. The suspension seems improved and the steering seems better! As to how better I really don't know! The gear shift is definitely longer and if you cruise at 30mph in Sports + the gear is on D3 and the revs are higher. TBH I felt a bit of a **** driving around at that speed with high revs.

I believe you can pull the right paddle to change up as many gears as you want. Not sure whether it will change back down as soon as you release the paddle or not though

So as we all thought, no difference what so ever except to traction control. Phew I thought I'd been missing something all these years

The definitive guide to which gearbox? Auto or DCT?

Both..to be pedantic that doc referred to the ZF6HP on the 23i 30i and the DCT on the 35i 35is
