Girls shouldn't be driving cars anyway ....... 
I am confused, though perhaps my thinking is not scientific enough...
Hair dressers are, by profession, obsessed by hair styles, and girls are in my experience obsessed by their hair (amongst many, many other things). These two facts being the case, I'd have thought that both were MUCH more likely to be coupe owners because they offer dependable protection for their barnets..., therefore casting doubt on the manly assertions being made above

It's certainly not true to make blanket statements about roadsters. For example, is a mini coupe a man's car ? Would you label a Lamborghini Gallardo Superlegerra Spider or an AC Cobra 'girl's' cars because they are roadsters ? Hmmm.
Personally there are cars I would buy and cars I would not, based on my taste - and in any case I'm in a Z and I love it - if you (fictional envious person) don't then that's fine, I still grin every time I see it outside my house as I walk through the front room

All I know is the ladies love my Z4 and in the month I've ownded her I've had a beautiful woman on a ducati yell "Goddamn that's a beautiful car" and quite a few other women pull up alongside me and try to start chatting. I think it's because they are rare in my area but the theory that convertibles are for women is just insane. I drive cars that I love and having others turn their head or appreciate it is nice but that's not why I bought it or why I love my Z.
It's all about passion, if you love convertibles and overall i guess more guys do - then drive one. I've seen several ladies driving zeds in my neck of the woods (and according to some on the forum i 'drive like a laaaady' )
Street KA, Tigra etc i would imagine being more of a girls choice but then the ordinary versions tend to be driven by girls. Peugeot 206, 207, 307 more of a girls car, megane etc.
Older cars tend to hark of classic motoring and need love attention and plenty of nursemaiding, i don't think that many ladies can be arsed to spend every morning fighting to get the car running.
Convenience, image, price all play a part. Bearing in mind the new zed was 'softened up' to appeal more to women over the previous 'lads' z4 perhaps bmw weighed into this topic before it was started. I certainly tend to think of the slk as 'a girls choice' no offence intended to any one and that market was something bmw wanted a slice of apparently.
More importantly to me is how often does the roof come down, i would imagine more women are fairweather convertible drivers or more importantly - let's put the roof down if it's sunny and we're going somewhere that we can be seen.

It's usually jealousy that has people poking fun at roadsters. Many can't afford them either cost wise or because they need 4 seats. A roadster is a real statement that either you don't conform or that you can afford to run two cars. If it's a BMW or Merc then you also are driving a premium brand so you are a target for everyone else to have a go at you.

90% of ppl who say i have a hairdresser's car are the owners of c2's cleo's or fiest's. and yes there are a lot of women who drive roadsters but the majority are driving underpowered mx5's or vauxhall tigra's.
im a young driver and most my mates know their cars and therefore understand the reason for owning a 2 seater, "has anyone tried driving a hatchback on a race track!!!" its not fun. so for me the main reason for buying a zed was for weekend fun with my mates on track and summer trips to the lakes with the top down and let my fiesta do my commuting to uni

Why is it that it is only guys that care if a car is masculine or feminine, for goodness sake just enjoy what you have and not be influenced by narrow minded philistines (other men) that it's either one thing or the other.

Yes but they are extremes, a Z4 is neither or for that matter is an MX5, and sorry philistine seems quite apt from my side of the gender fence

as with most cars, improvements are introduced, thats when BMW introdced the coupe
, this thread is really funny , - Summary - Who cares?, am sure the MX-5 forums claim it's not a girls car!! , bottom line is most of us have a stunning looking motor , which has a powerful 3.0 lump that's great to drive , which goes sideways around roundabouts, if thats a girls car sign me up!!

Let's face it, everyone on here has a nice car that they are passionate about and so they should be, girl or man. But for me the best option that could be specked on MY Z was the fold away roof!
