Hi folks
Probably been asked before but I’m new here
The sports mode button on my 2005 z4 lights up temporarily with ignition and then goes out with the rest of the check lights but when I press the button I get no lighting at all
Anyone had experience with this as I don’t know where to start

I think mine is like that as well. Seems to work ok although I've only used the Sport Mode button once in five years :)

I just don’t understand why it won’t light up
I suppose I should try pressing the button while driving which should let me know if sport mode is activating
 
I don’t have an e85/6 but would have thought the light would come on when you press the button, perhaps you have a fault somewhere, have you had the car scanned?
 
Does the switch work whilst driving regardless of the light? Should noticeably increase throttle sensitivity?

Never looked at it on startup but my light comes on when pressed with engine running, never tried toggling it on/off in ignition 2 position.
 
should stay lit when activated- get a scan done to see what's the problem

Have only had the car for 2 weeks and just found out you are able to use the switch while moving so will try that tomorrow and see if it actually drops into sport mode and have it scanned on Monday
Apparently using tiptronic automatically puts in in sports mode but again will not light up
Again it only lights briefly when ignition turned on
 
Until you actually ascertain if the Sport mode is working then you're in the dark really.
I'm impressed, yet slightly dismayed that you've managed to resist trying it for two weeks! :wink:

When you say tiptronic you obviously have an auto box.
In my experience whikst on the move as soon as you press sports mode there is an immediate downshift and the engine accelerates to a higher rpm before changing up.
Throttle response is also quicker - less pedal movement for a larger rpm increase.
Similarly if you toggle the shifter left from Auto then Sports mode pops up in the dash window as against the normal D for drive.

If you havnt noticed a significant change in between sports and drive then I would suggest it is ckearly not working.
Similarly its a bit like when you floor the throttle through the " normal" full pedal point - or what used to be called kickdown.

The changes are Not subtle, the world passes by much more rapidly and it upsets the wife if I "thrash" her car.
 
I'm guessing you have a 5 speed auto box? Its not tiptronic though. Push the lever to the left and SD should light up between the clocks. Same should happen if you press the button.
 
The indicator does light up on the dash when shifter is pushed left but dash indicator doesn’t come on when the button is pressed

OK, so when you push the stick left, does the gearbox and throttle behaviour change? (You can't miss it?)
If it does, but not when you press the switch, that points to a switching issue somewhere.
 
Throttle won't change if you push the lever left (that only happens with the button), on my car it typically changes down two gears though.
 
Seems to be something missing from inside the button as silly as that sounds but there is nothing inside to bridge the terminals when the button is pressed
The rubber piece that acts as a return spring is in place but that’s all
