Sport Seat Setup

Good morning all,

I'm loving my daily drive into work now, the view of those hips in the wing mirrors always makes me smile, but I'm suffering with the seats! I have the sports seats, electrically operated with heating, but I just cannot seem to get them set up correctly. I realise that I'm not the smallest bloke, although I am getting smaller by the day, 88 hour weeks on my feet will do that! I have a slight lower back problem but it's my left leg that's getting painful at the moment.

I think i remember someone mentioning a guide to setting them up properly but I cannot find it. Can anyone help?

Many thanks,

Jon

Everyone's different obviously, but I set the seat as low as it'll go, the front of the seat quite high, the back quite upright and the steering wheel out fully and slightly up to avoid my knees

I see you have the M Sports Seats  I played about with the electric settings for a while, I used the 3 memory settings until I settled on the most comfortable. I find the seats great on long or short journeys - I did have issues with my right leg on very long motorway runs but I sorted that by getting cruise control fitted.
And I too love seeing the rear haunches in the wing mirror :driving:

That sounds uncomfortable to me - like you say everyone is different. I go for seat right down, with a bit of tilt up at the front, and seat back tilted as far back as it will go (in an E85). Steering wheel as low as poss to comfortably fit over knees and reach adjusted so palm of hand can touch the top of wheel without leaning forward.

For the OP - I also have long-standing low back issues (and recently experienced a small disc prolapse with pain down my left leg) and find this is exacerbated by having a more upright back coupled with knees being too high. Sadly, this is the [painful] position I am forced to adopt in my SLK, but the E85 is way more comfortable for me. But we're all different shapes with different needs - just that some are easier on the eye than others!
Best of luck getting comfy.

The only way I found to make the M-Sport seats comfortable was to fit them in an E46.

Jon,
With your lower back issue having the seat in the lowest position and tilted at the front is probably the worst thing your could do. The lower you can get your knee/hip ratio the better, at least that's what my physio used to tell me. Not easy to do in the zed, but try and higher your seat as much as you can (if any) try and keep the tilt at the front as low as possible.

I had the same thing when I first got mine, however with the normal seats. Just give it time and keep tweaking as you drive and you'll find a more comfortable position.

Thanks all. I've raised the back of the seat cushion and I'll keep playing. I'm going to change the run flats and it's due new suspension, when I can work out what, so that should help as well.
