Sport Mode

I have a 2006 Z4M and 2006 M3 SMG; When I engage the Sport mode on the M3 there is a distinct performance change. However when I engage the Sport mode on the Z4M i detect no change.
Is the difference because of the SMG in the M3 or is the Z4M not functioning properly? :driving:

I suspect you've answered your own question. Sport mode on the Z4 alters a number of parameters, throttle curves, steering weight, and if fitted, gear changes on auto's. It stands to reason that the M3 (SMG) works similarly in that you're not only feeling the change in throttle response, but also heightened sense of change from the engine as clutch changes may well be earlier and/or more agressive in sport mode.

I have a stock Z4 3.0ise, without sport mode, throttle take up is smooth and progressive, steering is in 'girly' mode (very light). WIth sport mode engaged, throttle response is much earlier (with little change in the last few inches of throttle), steering heavier. If you drive the Z4 agressively the change between non sport and sport is minor, and as far as I know the Z4M doesn't have the assisted steering (electronic) that the stock Z4's do, so there may be no change in sport mode there.

Ultimately sport mode in the Z4 doesnt transform the car (manual), just tweaks it a little.

The only thing that will change on the Z4M is the throttle response not performance. If the M3 SMG is like the CSL I drove, you'll get faster gear changes and a relaxation of the traction control also.
