I never use Sport + as basically just switches the traction control off, not good if you hit a patch of diesel.
Tim.

Surely the Sport+ mode must do more than turn off traction control otherwise you could just engage Sport mode and the turn it off yourself. I only use sport mode. I still don't fully understand what knocking the auto shift to the left does but I use both when I want to have a bit of fun.

If you use sport mode is it still worth moving the auto shifter over or is that surplus to requirements? (I never use manual gears btw).

Its quite a complex setup in the e89. Normal, Sport and Sport plus have different levels (mapping) for throttle, gear selection, steering weight and traction options. Add to that on autos and DCT's that you also have manual control or sports shifting to add into it. There's never been a full open explanation from BMW about all the different stages and how the auto/DCT sports shift impacts things.

Sports mode on the e89 (having come from the single sport option in the e85) certainly in combination with the DCT also makes more differences to valve timing etc as the noise that comes from the exhaust on the 35i in sports mode is louder, not to mention the extra pops and crackles on the engine overrun. Its a great combination and the reason I have the 35i/DCT.

I don't notice any difference between Sport and Sport + on the manual anayways, should it feel different? admittedly I haven't used the Sport + much as didn't like the thought of turning traction off.

Tim.

Sport + ,according to my 2010 owners handbook, keeps the enhanced throttle and steering response, takes off DSC but activates launch control.

I always have Sport Mode on. It's rare when I need to really use it, but when I do, I'm glad it's there! Given the traffic where I live, being able to zip into a fast merge makes it worth it.
