Sport mode ?? Auto

Hi all,

I've been driving my Auto now for a few days but still confused about the sport mode.

As i understand it, to out into sport mode I can move the gear selector over to the right (which activates the sports mode) however, there is also a Sport button on the console. So my question is, if I put the selector mode (to the right), do I also need to press the sport button too? What's the difference?

Thanks?

Moving the gear lever or pressing the sport button does the same thing.
Guess that the facility on the lever is to engage sport before you start to use the tiptronic box for a proper hoon!

I have a DCT gearbox - on mine engaging sport via the button changes the shift points / steering weight / engine response / suspension.

Pushing the gear lever changes the shift points only.

Doing both gets you 'MORE SPORT' as they are additive (if you see what I mean).

You'll notice when you select sport your rpm will usually increase around 1000rpm to give a more responsive drive. It's ideal when you need that little bit of oomph when you don't want to kick down and keeps the revs high until you want to return to a more refined and slightly more economical drive.

I always used to engage sport when needed to make a quick overtake. Or if I was out for a proper country road hoon. Unless you have the adaptive suspension it won't change that and again the steering wheel weight won't change unless you have servotronic steering.

You can use the box in sport mode for those times you need better response but want the car dynamics the same (comfort). Sometimes you just want to overtake quickly without weighting up the steering or suspension (if fitted).

My 2.0 makes a different exhaust tone when the sport button is pressed but not so much when I flick the auto lever over!

I've had my auto for 15 months now and never realised that pushing the gear lever over to the left puts it in sport mode (less the stiffened steering and throttle)
I just thought that was the way to get the manual option of pushing and pulling the lever :?

......you'll be telling me next that the roof comes down!!?? :|

I did a post a few years ago on this as I got confused and needed to go through the different set ups, there is quite a few of them.

Sport mode the gear changes are faster, give it a try running on a straight say at 40, and go up and down in standard then flip sports. In sport the changes are very fast up or down, in normal its delayed and sluggish it seems to hold the revs a bit longer before changing, in sports its bang aggressive.

As you punch sport and depending on your speed it may shift down for you as it runs at a lower gear for higher revs, pretty pants if you want to run at 30 in 6th it wont in sport auto.

When pushing the car the gear change is left at a higher rpm, and it shifts down to 1st when stationary.

Kick down is also fun and I did not notice any difference in mode when using this.

I found my 30 to be better at fuel efficiency in sport, yes it did a few more mpg.

So manual sports mode is how I ran it. fast gear change leave me to change gear even to 6th at 30mph, but dont forget when you use the kick down that it wont auto change up in manual, but it will auto change down. which I found confusing.
