Does anyone with a 3.0 si run it in sport mode all of the time ?
I mean as soon as you get in you switch to sport mode day in day out .
I wonder what the mpg is if you keep it like this ????

I did a test in mine keeping it in Sport mode for a while, and am convinced (as strange as it sounds) it actually improves fuel economy, provided you drive it steady/normally.

I ran a test once on my previous Z4 a 2006 3.0si. A 1,050 mile trip I drove one way with the sport mode off. The return trip with the sport mode on and I got almost a 1 mile per gallon increase. (.87 as I recall) However when you consider the differences in variables it is insignificant.

I used to. But now I only use it when I need overtaking (just for a bit of fun and special). :D

It's the first thing I do after turning the key :driving:

Never worried About mpg / fuel prices personally I think driving the way I want justifies any extra fuel costs..

Used to use it most of the time in my 3.0 - mainly for the improved steering weight; have yet to try it in the M....

Does that button actually do anything apart from throttle mapping change on the M? I thought that with the hydrolic system on M cars it would not change anything on the streering. Maybe does let the DSC and ABS a little more loose?

Just throttle, don't listen to anyone else who says different for the z4m. Other BMW m's are a different matter though, e46 same as z4

I think it should be the other wary around, sport mode should be the default setting and then maybe have a comfort mode or something if you want the car to settle down. Although that would sound a bit weak in the sales pitch ''this car has a comfort mode.'' Apart from it sounding good I really dont see the point in the sport mode, it does make the car better but it dosn't make it lairy in any way so as I said it might aswell be the default setting.

The MC is like ridding on a walnut at low speed town driving  It would make sense for the Sports button to relax the DSC though. ON the other hand I took it for a 2 hr blast on country roads on Sunday and you can feel the tale move a little the DSC really intervening to control actual traction slip (hard with Michelin Sports on a dry road).
Maybe this car simply does not do comfort and gentle... just raw or plain brutal :D

I never use Sport mode in mine. Never really got the point of it, as when it's "on" the accelerator has a much more binary response (on/off), which is not what you need when driving quickly, and correctly measure the amount of power at corner exit. Rev matching is also more difficult, but maybe is just because I am not used to drive in sport mode...

Tend to switch mine on all the time its just so much nicer to drive in sport mode much more lively and feels lighter not that it is i even drive on motorways with it on but am trying hard to turn it off as i did coming back from Silverstone Saturday evening as that fuel needle was deffo moving towards empty quicker than normall

So far mine is nearly always on. I drove home from the garage with it switched off but once I tried it I was in love and has become the norm.

I much prefer the heavier steering and quicker throttle response plus it doesn't seem to have a negative effect on my mpg.

I'm averaging 29mpg mainly on B roads :driving: and start stop traffic in town. I was averaging 27mpg across the same routes in the FN2 Type R I had prior so I wasn't expecting the zed to be as frugal.

I know its probably in my head but the exhaust sounds much more throaty in sport mode too.

Good post - i was driving the last two days with the Spots mode on - i think the Z needs it other wise it's too refined. :driving:

I started to run my 3.0 (auto) with sport mode on all the time over the past 6 weeks

I haven't noticed increase in MPG but what I did notice is that is asked for oil to be topped up for the first time. Infact I've had to add an additional 2 liters. I never had to so this in the previous 9 months of ownership where I hardly ever had it in sport mode.

Checked mine out on long highway drives (E89) sport mode and driving "reasonable" I agree 100%. "Slightly" better mileage.

Don't use Sport + unless I really want to put my foot down...
