I've just seen the BBC's report on Jonny Wilkinson "World Cup hero Wilkinson to retire", nothing against Jonny per se as for all I know he might agree with me but to me Hero's are firefighters, doctors, medical researchers that turn up trumps with a wonder drug & other people that save lives or do great things that benefit mankind, but definitely not overpaid sports personalities.

It just irritates me when the Hero word is used inappropriately.

It does say World Cup hero, so they mean within the rugby world.

Others argue that no true hero get paid an annual salary for performing heroic tasks.
 
It's not like he can fly or go invisible or even see through a brick wall. Even the terminator could do that and he was a badie.
 
You are all wrong. The only heroes in the world are football players! Well, according to the way the country constantly gets an erection every time Wayne Looney kicks his little ball!

Heroes are people who do good for other people, no matter how small the act may be, and for no reward.
