Moving it left shows "SD" in the display ie sports mode and changes at higher revs to normal mode, so I'm not sure that your answer is correct.mr.tourette said:DLH said:Is there any difference to using the button to select sports mode to pressing the shift stick to the left on an auto or do they both do exactly the same?
they operate individually.. moving the stick over just engages manual change, you still have to press the sport button to engage sport mode![]()

On an auto it also adjusts the gearbox to hold a higher gear than normal, and I think (though not 100% sure) that it changes the gear ratios too.
Bing -
It can't change gear ratios as they are fixed tooth gears. What it does do is change the up and down shift points to more aggressive settings for performance not economy.
It's actually therefore more often in a lower not higher gear.
(sorry)
Not strictly true...you can electronically alter gear ratios, we use a device in drag racing, that bolts to the rear of the transmission, its alters the gearing for street driving at the push of a button. We can go from a 5:10 final drive to a 2:30 for the foad, company called gear vendors make the unit.![]()

No unless you floor it, it just holds the gear longer than usual. Pushing it left sticks it in Sport mode, only once I manually change a gear does it go into manual mode.Scooba_Steve said:STUBOY2UK said:I don't even use the sport button in my auto, I just push the lever to the left which increases throttle response and holds gears longer.
Surely it holds them to redline? Or until you change.
