Sport button

Can someone please tell me exactly what the sport button does? When I turn it on, I swear I can hear a note change in the exhaust?

Regards,

On the manual it reduces steering power assistance and alters the throttle response. On auto it also raises and firms up the change points making a vast difference.
What would you expect it to do? :D

Haha! :D some kind of turbo boost or extra 200+ bhp would be nice! 8)

On the auto it will also kick down a gear if you are in full auto, and hold a gear much longer than normal.

Basically it gives more throttle for less pedal travel - no extra horses, but it feels like you get given them a bit quicker. Funny what you say about note change because today when I switched it off without moving my right foot I thought I noticed the same thing. Minuscule though, barely noticeable in a manual and probably only because I did it at quite a low speed.

It does reduce the throttle pedal movement needed and so gives the impression of greater response. I hardly feel the change in steering response but the throttle response is far more marked. On my si I prefer the characteristics of the Zed with the sport button on.

I'll try to hear the exhaust change tomorrow - you've got me intrigued.

:driving:

I thought the same with my 3.0i, it was like the exhaust note got deeper with sport mode on. I think it was placebo though....

Make sure you do the throttle reset. When I did mine, my sport button suddenly made a difference. I do swear it makes no difference to the steering though. Or not enough that I notice a difference.

The change in exhaust note is due to less throttle input needed for quicker acceleration.

Like i've said on here a million times before, switch it on and off whilst pressing the accelerator half way down, you'll notice the difference, but you won't gain more power or noise.

I definitely notice the feel when I press the sport button. More throttle response and tighter steering, I'd like the effect of a turbo coming on boost but sadly no

I was hoping it would almost, transformer'esq, change into an F1 car, but think I was asking too much there. :)

On the ///M there is no effect on steering as it has proper steering

I beg to differ as per previous argument / thread ........ :D I took the matter to BMW technical support ........

The biggest difference I notice is a little red light comes on beside it, that pretty much it lol

Mine is orange. Yours must be broken if it's red, hence why you can't feel any difference :|

:D

Well - out in the Zed this morning and tried sport button on and off at constant throttle setting and couldn't pick up a change in exhaust noise/note. . .however I have noticed the pick up is so much sharper with the sport button on that the characteristics/noise of the exhaust does change. It sounds sharper and more aggressive - probably as a result of the sharper throttle response.
I'm going to keep trying at different throttle settings to see if there is any change in tone . . .but so far no.

:driving:

Pretty sure you will only notice the change when turning it off at constant throttle pedal position.

You have to let off pedal and repress when first turning on. I assume this is so you can't accidentally turn it on in slow traffic and plow into the car in front.

When you press the sport button the car stays exactly the same!!!

It's the driver that changes and becomes more aggressive!
