The sport button on my Z4M has no effect...??,,,,,having owned an E46 M3 prior to this car there was a distinct change in throttle response when the sport Jetton was pressed,,,no effect with the Z...I expected it to be the same,,??,,,share your experiences guys...

Try driving in traffic with it on. If you kiss the windscreen a few times and give yourself mild whiplash, then it works!

You should definitely notice it unless you've got the touch of a blacksmith.

Given the E46 M3 experience of how it works I expected the same...???...I know the Z4M carries the CSL ECU but surely the effect should also be the same

It should make a huge difference, mine does. Might be worth trying the throttle reset procedure.

Never heard much good said about it, on the M. Pointless left over from the other Zeds in the range, where I gather it does makes some sence.

Still havn't ever pressed the daft thing. :o

if you dont get a massive kangarooing if you leave sport on around a 2nd gear mini roundabout when you come off the gas and then go back on it, then something wrong, shouldnt be called sport button really, should be called "make yourself look like a c**t" button !!! better on fast a roads when going quicker, forget it in traffic tho :headbang:

How do you know it's useless if you've never tried it? :P

OP, it's easy to know if it's working - the first few centimetres of throttle pedal travel lead to almost no consequent rise in engine revs when the sport setting is off. If you press the sport button then press the throttle pedal and the engine immediately responds, then the sport button is working.

Sports mode off = unresponsive throttle pedal with difficulty pulling away with modulated revs and difficulty heeling and toeing on down changes.

Sports mode on = immediately responsive throttle pedal with intuitive modulation of engine revs, easy rev matching and the added bonus of more pops and bangs on the overrun.

I never drive the car without the sport button pressed as I really don't like the standard throttle map - especially in stop-start traffic. I prefer a more direct relationship between my foot and the engine response, although I do agree that you need a little subtlety to your ankle movements in sports mode. However, I would swap the sports button and fly-by-wire throttle for a throttle cable any day...

Lol

Only last week the wife said "we'll go in your car if you don't press that whiplash button"

I found this link about s54 throttle adaptation reset

http://www.evo.co.uk/buying/buyingguide/242575/bmw_z4_m_coupe_checkpoints.html

Curiously, the throttle system can go out of tune. Resetting it can improve throttle response and its really simple to do:
Turn the ignition on and wait for 10 seconds, then turn it off for 10 seconds, then turn it on again for 10, then start the engine.

Maybe its worth trying, not sure if it will work but its worth a go

Think that's the same procedure as the other Z engines to reset the throttle. Works a treat
