Sport button

Maybe Luce as never just driven off?! Rotherham is a hot bed of crime and would not blame her for locking the doors instantly! 630 and a Z4 3.0si...nice combo.

Disclaimer.
I have never visited Rotherham

drive off - doors lock themselves. Keep bluetooth on for phone, auto syncs.

Just doubled your efficiency!!

Don't know how the doors lock themselves? My Mum's 630 does it but i have to press the button on the center console in the Z.
As for the bluetooth, my Dad's connects automatically as soon as he get's in his X5 but when i get in the Z4 a message comes up on my phone that say's 'connect with BMW****?' and i have to click yes on my phone. :|

Yes, check your phone settings as mine connects automatically when in my Z4.

As with most things drive off locking has to be programmed by the dealer or independant

there should also be an option on your phone to automatically accept the car device.... what phone you got?

Ah i see.

Samsung U600, i'll have a look now.

you need to put it on the paired devices list on your phone and then there should be an option which says 'allow automatic connection' or similar.

Just another question on the sportmode...does it use up more petrol (gasoline) when using the feature?

It will increase consumption for many reasons from the oversensitive throttle that encourages use of more revs and more aggressive acceleration (that smile on your face costs money).
With cruise control it resumes preset speeds way faster.
On autos it sits approx. one gear lower at any speed and holds gears longer changing up later.

i have a manual. other than a more sensitive throttle, what else does it do?

less steering assistance:thumbsup:

i've tried it a couple of times now since buying it at the end of June.

which outweighs the other: performance gain vs petrol loss?

Surely the idea is that when you want economy you leave it 'off' and when the performance and fun factor then 'on', so it's not really a trade off.

On a manual it's more about perception than reality of increase performance. At least on the auto it changes the shift pattern and hold lower gears longer, etc. In reality leaving it on all the time just makes the engine drone as it tends to be one gear lower at all times.

I therefore tend to drive with it off 90% of the time, but when I need to get moving, say to overtake, or have a bit of fun, on it goes :driving:

Personally i love it makes the whole car feel more alive but thats an Auto drivers view :D

Have been trying hard to use it less as i find i am driving with it on all the time and it drinks juice big time.

I run it off in urban, and when the road is clear I press it.

It's just really hard to be smooth at slower speeds with it vs with it off, so off it goes :)

Why they didn't just do a happy medium of the two is beyond me, as ultimately the throttle is far too top-heavy in sport (response is fine, but the top-weighting is dumb)

Steering is good at full weight, could just add more assistance under 10mph for parking etc.

Urban: Off

I usually find fuel economy for Cruise Control with Sport ON is better in my manual! A petrol engine is most efficient at around 3/5ths of full available power, so 'making progress' a little faster more often aids fuel economy - provided you dont break and waste it all ofcourse! :)

Mines on all the time, and to be fair it's not until I put my foot down and wonder why I'm not going anywhere that I notice now on the odd time I forget to switch on.

Should try not using for a whole tank or two to see what difference it makes in fuel.

Ive not noticed any difference with consumption on or off...

wish we could just set it to on by default....

Hi all,

I can't notice a difference with my sport button (manual). In my old m3 (God rest its soul), as soon as you pressed the sports button you noticed the revs would be slightly higher, more throttle response. But with the Z4 nadda, nothing. Is there anyway to check its really working??

Sounds strange, the steering is much heavier and the throttle response is very different, so you would definitely notice it.

X2 you would deffo notice it especially when you turn it off after running for a while in sport.

When i turn the Sport button off i can feel and here the revs drop get a deeper drone sound and the pedal seems heavier prob because i have to press a lot harder to get the same response i do in Sport.
