Sport button? Traction in the snow?

Hi I have just bought a z4 coupe and would like to know what the sport button does?
Also what are peoples thoughts regarding hill starts in traffic in snowey conditions. Should I switch of tc,ESP?

Think it's dsc you need start in second gear and try to have low revs

As the previous poster said 2nd Gear is the way to go and it goes without saying easy on the gas, pretend you are stepping on an egg works for me.

Don't bother with the Sport button in the snow, it will make it easier to apply too much power.

I find that when struggling to get going it's best to press the DSC button once to de-activate the DSC system but leave the Traction Control active.

I don't have a DSC button I did on my 2008

I jut leave it all engaged, and works very well imo. Always turned it off, but today i just sat there and gently applied the accelerator on a hill, and she got up there (slowly ha).

Rolf, I believe you do have a DSC button or at least a way to disengage it anyway (you have an '09 model). Mine does.

Pressing the DSC once only switches off the Traction control, pressing an holding the button will switch off Traction control and DSC. I usually just switch off Traction control on snow, and i never go near the sport button on snow that would be so mad for more reasons than i care to mention.

What does the Sports button do? Increase BHP? alter suspension? stearing? etc

The sport button sharpens the throttle response and stiffens the steering, when you activate it the car does feel like it's gained an extra 20bhp. It hasn't but it feels like it has.

Pressing it once changes the normal traction control into Dynamic Traction Control

from the manual:
"DTC is a traction-optimised version of DSC intended for use in special circumstances,
such as roads covered by deep snow. Under these circumstances the system ensures
maximum forward traction, but at a certain cost in terms of stability. Consequently,
you must exercise suitable caution when driving under these conditions.

In the following exceptional situations it may be best to activate DTC for a short time:
-When driving uphill on snow-covered roads, in slush or on unploughed, snow-covered roads
-If the car has to be rocked out of or started in deep snow or on a loose surface
-If snow chains are fitted"
