Sport Button. How to get too

Hi..

I guess that I have been over using my sport button as it has fallen down into my center consul.
It still works.
Just want to know how best to get to it to push it back up.
Can I get to it by removing the cigarette lighter etc or do I need to remove the hole center trim?

I can help with this!

I just finished rebuilding my interior after wrapping a lot of it in carbon vinyl.

In the process of this I broke one of the clips on the sport button.

You can push it down and back towards the rear of the car after removing just one trim piece. The one attached to the gear stick gaiter and with the door lock button in.

Edit! Follow the first three pics or so in this guide.

Also just for clarity here's my car with the bit highlighted

Huh, it seems like you are missing the grey circle around the button? This actually is the thing that stops the button from going through the hole when you press it.

I broke the clips that attach the it to the button assembly. Bit of superglue fixed that but without that circle you won't keep the button in place!

Pulling the ashtray out is also dead easy and it looks like you might be able to get to it from there (but don’t quote me on that)!

Yeah it's just one screw and pull! But I can't remember if you can get the button out that way.

Yes I do have the circle trim that goes around the button

Ah good, this is basically the only thing that holds the button in place, I broke the tiny clips that hold it all together. So super glue was used!

Get yours sorted?

Hi..
Yes I did get to the sport button via the remove of the ashtray.
But not so good as I have found that one of the clips on the ring has broken so she won't clip back into place.
Any ideas as to were I can get a replacement.
Are these common on other BMW's.

Quick look, this is chrome, but there are oem ones on there to, just more expensive.

I was able to superglue mine together due to the clips both breaking on mine. Been working fine for a few weeks.
