Spongy Brakes with new Calipers

So I've put new discs, pads and calipers on along with some braded hoses. The idea behind this was to save some time in the switch over, which it did.

Despite following the instructions in TIS to depress the clutch while fitting and not allowing the fluid level to drop below minimum I now have spongy breaks. Also one side makes a 'thwomp' noise when coming to a stop - it's not squeaking but a loud noise which can be minimised by not holding the brakes on when coming to a complete stop.

I have re-bled the brakes via pressure bleeder with no change and also used the pedal depression method. I can only assume that some air has got in but I don't quite see how and also wonder if it's managed to get into the DSC unit which I have not bled yet.

I checked the carrier mounting bolts and they were a little under 110 so nipped them up expecting this to cure the noise, which it hasn't. The slide pins are greased and the BMW anti-squeak paste has been used on the pads and calipers.

Any ideas?

You know the reservoir has two compartments - one for brake and one for clutch? That fooled me the first time ....

This is worth a read, http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=88133

Several members have been driven nuts by sponginess following a caliper swap, I was lucky when I did mine and didn't need to trigger the ABS purge process and everything was firm.

Someone has previously mentioned that a real schoolboy error is possible with the rears (not sure with the front) as the calipers will fit upside down on the opposite side leaving the bleed nipple at the bottom instead of top where air will settle, so may be worth checking (but don't own up to it on here :P ).
