Are you going to have it moved to the boot ?
No fella, she never sees the rain, never kept outside now so it was when she was years ago, so i guess it was only time.
I just need to ensure the drains are clear, but they were when Rob AKA "smart bear" did for me in spring 2015 so odd really its just happened.

Mine is a garage Queen and never sees rain either and the drains are regularly cleaned. Fingers x I won't have any problems but I would definitely consider putting a new roof motor in the boot if it goes on mine.
I like to keep it original as poss but think this would be an acceptable mod.

Hope you don't get any more unwanted surprises Jonny.

Don't forget even if your car never sees the rain, water will get in there when you wash it.
I took mine to my mates garage for its MOT the other day and to check the roof drains were clear and clean using an air line, rod and good old fashioned hot water. We discovered the none motor side (fortunately) was blocked. You could easily see it with the roof down, on one side the roof mech looked like it was sat in a small pool of water the other was fine. The real worry was we only cleaned these out 9 months back and the car has done less than 2K in that time. I had hoped following a regular checking/cleaning regime would be enough to keep on top of this but I have come round to thinking moving the motor is probably the smartest option. I to would ideally have liked to keep it in the original position but it looks like mine will be on the move.

Good to see you back JE.

If there's anything I can help with at all just let me know, we can meet up for a pint and catch up..

I have a new bmw, but the two wheeled kind. Would make for some good pics with your motor.

I actually just threw up a thread in other marques mate... take a look :)

That's a lovely front end mate.

What bodyshop do you use? Mine needs Bodywork done and need to get some quotes.

i hate m-style with a passion and don't rate them but they seem to have done a good job here....

So you are just creating an M clone albeit without all the good bits, something you said you would never do as you wanted your car to be unique. :| What happened to the Cayman dream?

Let's not start Jonny bashing again lads.
The guy has been through enough this last year.

Your car Jonny you mod it your way
You need to explain to no one except Your bank balance :)

Not bashing, wondered the thought process as he has been the biggest "I'm not building an M, I don't like the look of them etc" across many threads.

Your bank balance :(

That was kinda my point, MR costs what £15ish Jonny's car will probably be in for twice that (nice roof aside) with a 2lt engine and ancillaries. :dizzy:

/shrugs - up to him, he is not the first or will be the last. I await the M badge on the boot fallout. :fuelfire:

It's definitely snobbery. I think your car looks great. Got the M front bumper on mine and can't say it makes much difference to people wondering whether it's an M or not. It's pretty obvious it isn't.

You'll also find many normal people I.e not us enthusiasts, don't actually realise you can buy a Z4M. They don't even realise you can get them in 3.0 form. I've had so many people ask what engine it has and seem shocked when I tell them it's a 3.0.

Most expect them to be in the same category as MX5's.

Perry "The qoute" gunn they call you, we all change our minds and the plain bonnet bores me and i couldnt have a M bonnet without the M bumper and the M bonnet is the only decent one as the after market ons are shite.
I didn't say that you couldn't change your mind - the intention was to point out that you obviously had... and that you're quite entitled to if you so wish, no offence was meant...

Im sure if i had a 3L engine it wouldnt be a problem to some to have a ///M bonnet and bumper on a non ///M, isnt there many non ///M members with a ///M bumper and one orange one with all the ///M parts?
What if i had a V8 would it be ok then cos it would be a ///M engine and faster then a ZM?
And I would never put a ///M badge on the car cos anyone can tell if they know their BMWs plus why do BMW themselves put ///M badges on non ///M cars then?
I put it down to ///M snobery from some, we see it all the time dont we?
I have no ///M rear, no ///M or sports seats, no ///M badges, no ///M binicle, no 224 alloys, and no 3.2L engine so there is no prentending my car is a ///M from me is there?
Im guessing your answer "Yes" to the above lol

Funny enough Jonny I was in the would never have a ///M badge on my car and still am in that camp really.
However having recently bought a new set of 224's from Germany they came with new original centre caps and the little///M badges fitted I was going to take them off but they're small and discreet and I think the wheels wouldn't look right without them.
They are staying put

Anyway I dare you to put them on the back and wings just to wind some of the Buggers up on here

I've had the exact same look of shock when I said it's a 3.0 actually the same with my old 2.5 I found a lot of people expect it to be a 2.0tdi as that's what's in most of the audi TT

I'm confused. Why would anyone care if you put M-sport accessories on your car? Mine came with the m-sport MF steering wheel. It has a small 'm' sticker on it, because it is a genuine m-sport part, not because it's trying to pretend to be an 'm' car. Same with the wheels (if I had them), they come with a small 'm' sticker, again because they are genuine m-sport accessories. And so on. I'll be putting 224's on my car (eventually...) but that doesn't make it an 'm' wannabe, I just like the look of them better than what's on mine now - some castoffs from a 3 or 5 series :( .
I guess if you went the whole hog and put the bonnet, front bumper, rear bumper etc on, it could be construed you're trying to make it look like something it's not, but as long as you don't commit the cardinal sin of putting an 'M' badge on the boot, does it really matter?

It's great that you're finally managing to just get s**t done Jonny, much better than just talking about it. It's going to look lovely when it's finished
