Split in tire wall

Front left tire was very low on air today, checked and it was down to 13psi. Closer inspection of the tire revealed a small split in the wall near the wheel rim there's a reasonable amount of tread on the fronts too. Will I need to replace both fronts? wheels are 108's if that makes any difference. Guessing I need a new pair of fronts

how old are they?

Tyre rubber does have a shelf life (which i think is around 6 years) So even if they have not been used they do perish.

Well the car had 60k on the clock when I bought it and the tires were part worn continentals all round. I'm guessing the tires aren't too old. Split may have been there when I bought it and has just got worse. The tire in question did have a slow puncture all along. It's just now a fast one, lol.

One quick question:
Are the fronts on the z4 225/40R18? Looks like I can get continentals for £117 each in that size. Not too bad I guess.

Well, it turned out the air was escaping from the rim due to corrosion (108's  ) and not the small split in the tire wall!
The split, although small was quite deep, so I replaced it with an identical Continental (Contisport 3 I think) tire for a cost of £130 fitted and balanced. My fronts were only about 6 months old so I think i'm ok just replacing the one :D. The guy cleaned up the corroded area so I shouldn't lose any air now (Until the corrosion worsens), so it's all good for now. Will be getting the wheels refurbed in the summer.
