Speeding

Boll*cks. Two days after receiving my 3 point adorned license I might have just added another 3. Took the breadvan out for a quick run round and 5 minutes after leaving the house, went through lights that were on the very very last remnants of being amber. Didnt see red as I went through but Im guessing that doesnt matter if they were red when I passed the lights beyond my view.

Idiot :headbang:

You might be OK ... They often aren't loaded and I think they are quite kind on tolerances. I've seen loads of people amber gambling and not getting flashed by them. Fingers crossed :-(

Cheers Tom. I'll keep things crossed. Stupid move really. Saw the change happening, sped up to get through and it seemed to hang on amber forever. Wasnt even in a rush.

They also flash like GATSO cameras and are quite hard to miss if they go off. Shite if it did :-(

This breadvan is turning you into a hooligan ;-)

Didnt see a flash but then im cacooned in the breadvan pretty tight.
My inner Fast & Furious is emerging thats for sure

Are you sure theres even a camera at those particular set of lights? From what I see nowadays, only a very small Percentage of them actually have cameras next to them.

Here's a section of road in my town, with a 30MPH limit. Note the garage, two concealed exits, parked cars, narrow road, average visibility, young people's centre and then just past that, there's a very busy entrance to a secondary school.

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@50.97523,-3.236428,3a,75y,266.64h,83.94t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1s5RfCw_-83MkQIHAnO0jjfg!2e0

The sort of place that maybe, just maybe, there should be police officers making sure that motorists stick to the law. Not a chance. Never seen one in eight years. Let's move on 500 yards:

That's better. Twice as wide, no school, fewer junctions, better visibility, last few yards of the same 30MPH limit. A MUCH better place to put a mobile unit, and indeed they do.

Nobody, and I repeat nobody, will ever convince me that speed cameras are about safety when they are positioned solely with the intention of catching as many people as possible.

That's interesting Budfox. Do they never try and catch people by the busier section?

No, I have never seen a speed trap (sorry, safety camera) in any other location in town than the one I posted.

I'm not condoning excessive speed, far from it, but anyone who believes that these cameras are positioned to maximise safety rather than revenue is a deluded fool.

On the top of the lights facing you ?? Traffic sensors

There's no red light cameras there inkey$ - that's just before the A2, right ? That's my normal route home and I see loads of people pushing through on amber/red. I know because I always stop in time.... :D

Now, if you're going the other way down the hill after the Heath there's a lights camera at the junction that goes left to Lewisham or right to Greenwich - it's a rectangular grey box sat on it's end on a pole. I may have been flashed by that before... But never got anything in the post.

What could be happening here is that (as most people will do) there is sensible driving past the obvious hazards, and then booting it when the limit is still 30 and the road opens up a bit.
