Speed Wobble and Brake Judder

Hi guy

Anyone know what could cause a speed wobble on the steering wheel all of a sudden, I was thinking wheel balance but I also have brake judder on hard braking. This suddenly appeared so does that rule out suspension joints? The wobble seems noticeable at all speeds above 30, you can't drive through it like an unbalanced wheel. Any ideas guys?
 
A judder/wobble through the steering wheel at a certain speed that you can drive through is a classic sign of wheels needing balancing. Not sure though when its combined with the judder on braking :scratchhead:
 
Sound very similar to an issue I had recently. My problem was a combination of worn ball joints, wishbone back bushes and a warped brake disc
 
Dont discount the discs themselves. When they wear they can warp and you get a hell of a juddering when you touch the brakes. If you look through the alloy wheels at the outer edge of the discs and there is a fair old rut then it is likely you have worn discs.

I had almost exactly this on my 3.0 a few years ago. Needed a new control arm too.
 
Must have been a sticky brake calliper as driving the car home tonight it was ok, no steering wheel wobble or brake judder. It could be because I hadn't driven it for a week but I will have to have a look at them and get the copper grease/anti seize compound out.

Had rear bad brake judder on a Renault 21 on really heavy braking, changed discs, changed track rod ends. Some years later had a wheel bearing go, had this repaired, no more brake judder.... Simple fix if only I had known in the first place.
 
I picked up some clumps of mud on the inside of a wheel. The result was sudden wheel imbalance. I took the car, my Mazda, to the tyre shop and they spotted it, clean it off and suddenly all was well again. Had you been through any muddy passing places shortly before it started?

No deep mud that I can remember, I used the car after a few days of having it parked up and driving to Plymouth I noticed the steering wobble at speeds over 30mph through to 80mph so I thought it was strange as you can normally drive through an unbalanced wheel. Braking felt fine until I broke hard at a roundabout and had the brake judder. Driving back a few hours later everything was fine and has been since, I can only think the hard braking released a sticky calliper or something.
 
Had that 3 weeks ago, had left wishbone replaced, now no problem. It gave the effect of maybe something with all the symptoms of balancing, caliper, braking but its the wishbone complete

But would that suddenly repair itself? Surely if the wishbone was worn or faulty it would stay like it and symptoms would not clear. :?

Its the ball joints on the wishbone that wear and feel loose, have a look underneath or rock the top of each wheel , HARD. then you can feel it. One side will feel different.
Under braking is the key, and it can vary at speed when the shaking begins.
 
I had exactly the same symptoms until I replaced the rear control arm bushes today.

Now its tight and positive and no brake judder.

Good luck getting it fixed soon. then you can get back to enjoying :driving:

Its a quick and cheap fix to replace the bushes.
 
As I have said the problem has cleared, no steering wobble or brake judder so I don't think it was bushes/control arm as once these are worn they do not repair themselves, my problem was something else hopefully never returning. :heat:
